A winger like Fiala making $7m is not as valuable as a 21 year old #1 d-man on an ELC.

The trade has turned out to be more horrible than anyone could have imagined. No team would take 2 Fialas over 1 Faber.
I consider myself to be part of the 'anyone' group and I've never once had an issue with the Fiala trade, but whatever you say.

Do we get to give Blake and the scouting staff credit for drafting Faber or is it null and void since he was traded?

@BigKing had it right:

No their biggest deficiency was thinking they need a lazy, one dimensional player thinking he was a missing piece which he has not been… Byfield’s breakout was going to happen so why the rush to push it along? That’s why Blake is likely to get canned in the off season. You know what results the Kings have gotten since acquiring Fiala and now PLD? 100 pts and we’re worse off, that was a brilliant f***en move

Tell me...what has Minnesota won? I mean....if that's what the argument is, what has Minnesota won since the trade?

The trade was a reasonable micro decision that was part of a bigger and horrific macro one.

Rob Blake created this ridiculous window to try and win with players on their last legs, Faber was going back to the Gophers and then with the Kings archaic development system and insistence that every player spend time in Ontario, was not going to be in LA until the 24-25 season when Kopitar would be 37 and Doughty 35. Fiala provided scoring that was going to be necessary to make the Kings cup odds go from 0% chance to maybe a 5% chance.

Said it though last season, he was every bit as good a prospect as Power and L Hughes. Sad that the best player the Kings have drafted since Doughty never played a game in LA due to managerial incompetence.

At least we can cheer for him in the Olympics.
A micro decision by micro brains...seems about right.

I am still trying to figure out how Blake got bent over by Minnesota and Winnipeg on players that they HAD to move. At least Arvidsson, who also HAD to move for cap, only cost some 2nds. But there is simply no justification for the prices he paid and the extensions they signed without any red flags.

Smartest man in the room syndrome? Honestly a casual fan looks at the PLD trade and signing and goes WTF - so bad on the face of it - it maybe end up as one of the top 20 worst in league history. The Fiala trade - you and maybe Herby only guys on here that felt certain that Faber would be a top pairing player. If he's a 2nd pairing or lower.. no one bats an eyelash... a late 1st rounder and a young 2nd pairing D - is reasonable for Fiala. But its Blake and his team's job to figure out what they had in Faber.. that is a total f***up. I think Blake is in way over his head and always was.

You’re really missing the f***en point huh.
You moved a Norris caliber, ELC contracted Dman who should have been an integral part of a REBUILDING team because upoer management thought they were cup contenders?
What has Minnesota won Goldy??? How about they win the f***en trade and will be far better off for than the Kings will, how’s that?

If everyone except Blake knew that Faber was going to be the equivalent of McDavid on D, how come he wasn’t drafted until mid-2nd round? In fact, there were 10 other dmen drafted before him. Man, that’s a lot of dumb GMs out there. Weird…

let's be real though, at THAT TIME nobody knew faber was gonna do this

everybody and their mother can say they were high on him, but that doesn't mean he was a pencilled in norris candidate. obviously they thought helge grans was gonna be better

You get the sense that Blake is overly concerned with making and cultivating good relationships with GM’s around the league instead of just ripping them off when they have no leverage. Even going back to the returns on Toffoli and Martinez, they were considered “fair” despite being in a huge seller’s market with Toffoli being the best forward available at the deadline.

It was a fair deal at the time, but Faber's taken his offensive game forward and the Kings are in freefall. Knowing what we know now, I'd obviously prefer to have kept Faber. I wished we'd traded anyone but Faber in that deal. As for Fiala, it's frustrating that he hasn't clicked with anyone in LA, but that was true in Minnesota as well.

I think we should play Fiala and Dubois with Kopitar. He's our captain. We need him to lead these two guys more than ever.

Dubois - Kopitar - Fiala
Moore - Danault - Kempe
Turcotte - Byfield - Kaliyev

We are going to be hating life when marc bergevin becomes gm. Frying pan->fire.
Blake has been awful but luc's pal is potentially worse if thats possible

How does he score 100 points in 117 games by not clicking with anyone?

Yeah, I was certain he would be a first pairing defenseman playing mega minutes a night. It was easy to project him as a franchise cornerstone Norstrom with far better puck and skating skills type. His breakouts were impeccable, but the immediate offensive contributions are definitely a surprise.

The argument I always made was that there is no possible way that a player like Fiala would ever mean more to a team's success than a player like Faber. Offense is incredibly easy to acquire, you can get comparable players to Fiala eveey single offseason. But you can't find elite skating defensemen capable of shutting down the oppositions best players. Faber against MacDavid massively outweighs the numbers a Fiala would put up in a series. You simply never trade those players, everybody in the league is starving for that when they want to make a run for it.

Disagree 1000% - Fiala is arguably to best forward on the team. I know many are a little ticked off about how the Kings have fallen in the last month or so, but to shit on every player just because you are sad doesn't make the narrative true.

PLD on the other hand is a bum.
Fiala isn’t even the best forward on his line.

There is a helluva lot more to hockey than the point total next to a players name at the end of the season. I wasn’t so unhappy with the trade when it went down, because of how much I over rated Fiala’s contributions to winning, and boy was I flat out wrong.

Fiala is an expensive complimentary bozo.

So you knew when the trade was made, that Faber was this "Norris" Caliber player? Jesus Christ.....I bet you are the type that when they are playing any type of sports dynasty game, you go through a season, and if you lose, you don't save it, and restart from the same place you left off...

YOU are the one lamenting how LA hasn't won anything since the trade.....and yet, MIN hasn't either, and the best you can come up with is...ehh....they won the trade....great..they won the f***ing trade, what Stanley Cup does that get th....wait...it doesn't? f***ing interesting....

Moore is good, but not even remotely in the offensive league that Fiala is....JFC some of the bullshit coming out now is unreal.

Again, if you knew this, and no knock on you, how in the f*** did Faber fall to the 2nd round? Halfway through the 2nd, let's see who passed on him to take OTHER D,

Ottawa. Anaheim, that's a given, Montreal....passed on him with Guhle, jury is out maybe?

NYR and NJD both passed, both needed D, (both drafted D) COL passed on him, needed D, took another D, Detroit passed on him, took another D, LA took Grans first, Minnesota passed on him twice, Ottawa took another D,

Those are just the guys that took D in front of him, there's another 15-20 picks that took, easily replaceable F's,

The point is, again not to shit on you, but it's really easy 3 years after to say, see I knew this (and to be fair you said it since the trade for sure, not sure if before) but when Full on scouting departments pass on a guy multiple times, either everyone in NHL scouting, sucks balls, or the guy wasn't that great at the time of the draft.....

And to your argument, many PPG are NOT avaiable in the off-season....

2021 - Offseason - PPG that were signed away - NOT ONE, ok, how about trades None in the off-season, Eichel beginning of the season, ONE player was available, and he was coming off major neck inury,

Oh, maybe you meant 2022 - Johnny Gaudreau, Debrincat via trade

3 players in 2 off-seasons of that offensive output became available, yea, they grow on f***ing trees

Faber’s stock went up significantly after the 2021 World Juniors. If there was a redraft when the trade happened, he would have gone in the first round.

Fiala hasn’t had the best stretch but the team is anemic on offense. Kings need a guy that can generate like him. Still producing even with the gaffs and slump of the whole team.

I still think Faber ends up at best a top four in LA. Maybe 20-30 seconds of pp 2. He wouldn’t be putting up the numbers here.

I’m realizing that Spence likely should be traded too. He is basically a back up here. Will play on the third pairing and likely won’t see pp time behind Clarke and Doughty.

I still think Spence’s history and talent are underrated. He is really good most nights. Just a tad undersized.

I have zero issues with this trade. Faber is really good. Fiala is really good. I don’t give two shits about salary cap stuff. Faber is going to be making what Fiala is and more shortly. RHD was an absolute area of strength and depth at the time of the trade and it still is.
