I slept only three and a half hours and they still managed to catch me asleep too.Everything nice happens when I sleep.
They’re 17 under the cap…..Good for Palat but 5 is too long
Edit 5 x 6 million? NJ is screwing up their chances. As soon as the young start becoming stars these big contracts are going to kill their depth while the individual projections are tumbling .
The Metro is bonkers right now.
With what cap space?Guys we need to go get Chychrun and JT Miller.
With what cap space?
Centers have more value. They’re 17 under the cap…..
We pay Staal the same 6 mill to win face offs as our third line center…..but they’re killing their chances with Palat?
In all fairness, that's because we generally suck on the rush (when was the last time we scored on a breakaway?)...we usually overpass or hold too long or miss the open netThe thing that worries me about Patches is that he apparently mostly generates his offense off the rush, and our system doesn't really support that so much. Hopefully Rod can learn to adapt a bit, as Necas would also benefit IMO.
Aren't we one of the teams that create the most odd man situations? Aren't our defensemen some of the best in clearing the puck to a player in an attacking position? The thing that worries me about Patches is that he apparently mostly generates his offense off the rush, and our system doesn't really support that so much. Hopefully Rod can learn to adapt a bit, as Necas would also benefit IMO.
I know a lot of teams made a lot of moves yesterday, but there are very few obvious spots for improvement left in Carolina’s lineup right now:
2C is still a concern on whether Kotkaniemi can step up to that role.
Weirdly for this franchise, there’s a RW glut now (Jarvis, Necas, Fast, Kase, Teravainen plays his off side often, Svech plays off side occasionally)
In general, what do they do with Necas? Is he on Staal’s wing? 4th line?? Or trade bait? I still believe he’s going to rebound from last season and a trade would be a mistake but is there space for him now?
Good questions. I think the team has some flexibility here with Burns.Burns will definitely help the PP but I wonder if he’s a true QB. Burns has a good # of PP assists but are they slap shots with rebounds or true passes?
Does Teravainen QB the PP?
Can Burns play the D required of Slavin, or will the pairings need to be juggled?
Can Andersen and Raanta avoid getting hurt at the same time?
The ultimate troll move would be to OS Nic HagueActually I thought about the Vegas trade and future considerations and Canes maybe wanting to keep hold of its draft pick for the time being, because you need to have your own specific picks for offer sheet purposes... but, as our 2023 3rd went yesterday in the Burns trade, we are out of the OS business for the tiers that would need our 3rd, 1st-3rd, 1st-2nd-3rd, 1st-1st-2nd-3rd picks for compensation.
We could still do an offer sheet within the salary tiers of:
$1,386,490 or below (no compensation)
Over $2,100,742 to $4,201,488 (2nd)
Over $10,503,720 (four 1sts)
The ultimate troll move would be to OS Nic Hague
Burns had 44 assists last year so he’s at least got some skill at distributing the puck. Hopefully the Canes learned from the Hamilton (big shot strategy) and TDA (walk the line, pretty passing strategy) phases of their PP enough to mix it up. If Pacioretty has a decent one-timer I think you put him at the right circle, Burns up top and Teravainen on the half-wall with Svechnikov and Aho either at the net or on the goal-line. Talent is there, just need better execution.I know a lot of teams made a lot of moves yesterday, but there are very few obvious spots for improvement left in Carolina’s lineup right now:

I am very much on record saying that I'm not fully bought into KK being 2C this year.IMO, What we are lacking, especially with Trocheck and Nino moving on, is guys that go to the net, score from the dirty areas and have the size/strength to withstand the physical play that comes with it. I’m sure that’s why they went after Marchment so aggressively.
Patches isn’t that guy. Kase isn’t that guy and wouldn’t be able to hold up. Staal and Fast do it. Svechnikov can, but that’s not best use of his skill set.
Maybe Kotkaniemi can, but that’s an unknown.
I’m already bracing for the “we couldn’t come to agreement so moved him” quotes from Waddell.
Good questions. I think the team has some flexibility here with Burns.
