Oh my JG in Columbus probably isn’t getting 100 points in a season. I guess a guy is willing to sign there so you take it but dang what a weird signing.

CBJ has to make some moves to keep Laine. Don’t really see how they can keep him after getting Gaudreau
We’ll see. Jarmo’s come out and said this doesn’t affect the plans to resign Laine. But that could just be GM speak.

You guys have been pretty active today I see.

Necas + Morrow + 2023 1st for Laine signed to an extension?

2024 2nd from PHI attached to Gardiner and shot into the sun?

Like I get it, maybe he wants to be a center going forward, but he was so god awful at wing the second half of the season that he was legitimately getting 4th line minutes because we just couldn't put him out there in any other situations
What are you talking about? Necas spent >90% of his ice time with top 6 players, either Trocheck or Aho. It was Kotkaniemi (the guy everyone has penciled in for the 2C in 2022-23) that had his ass stapled to the 4th line because he couldn't hack it in the top6.

Anyway Pacioretty and Staal are gone next year, at which point we could endlessly bicker which of Necas or Kotkaniemi are the 2c, depending if they could get Necas under contract. It's the forward version of the 2018-19 defense, where when healthy someone good is going to be in the bottom 6.

Yeah, that’s BS.

They’d have to dump a lot to fit Laine and his QO just this year much less sign him long term. I’d think it’d be much more cost effective to trade him for a young NHL C and quality futures.

Can’t say I’d be overly upset either way at this point. Keep a goal scorer? Cool. Trade for futures with a high ceiling? Also cool.

With the Max Pacioretty trade, I have the Cane with $4,770,583 in cap space remaining. If Bear gets 2 million, that leaves 2.7 for Necas.

In my opinion the best the Canes could do is work a deal with Anaheim sending both Gardiner and Bear along with a 2nd and a prospect to clear the cap space need to sign Necas or trade him for Laine

if we are getting someone from Columbus it would Voracek for a lot cheaper than Laine. Let Columbus overpay for wingers are be super weak down the middle.

Bear’s QO was 2.4. Can the arbitrator award him less than that?

Bear could totally screw us over right now by just signing his QO (and he’d be foolish not to IMO!)
I'm not sure it would screw us over too much. Canes can move him to someone, even if it costs a pick.

Short term, isn't the team allowed to go 10% over the cap in the summer? If so, we could still handle a Necas contract and/or offer sheet.

Bear accepts his QO.

In a stunning turn of events, Don Waddell reveals Bear is “future considerations”.

If a team like the Wings were to sweep in and offer Laine 7 X 8 or even 8.5 Columbus would have no way to match, I don’t believe, and with their other moves they could be an instant contender. I sure wouldn’t want to face a PP of Laine, Larkin and Copp

i dont get that. Its more of a "Hey Scott what is your plan for this year?" Am I going to make the roster out of camp? "There is a chance but it is unlikely" I think I will go back to school for another year and then evaluate my options. "Sounds good, we'll be in touch"
From actually listening to the interview it sounded like it was more of Morrow and his family's idea to stay in college with the way Waddell worded it. Seemed like they wanted him to turn pro, didn't really imply anything about him being on the NHL roster.
