Philly may dump JVR to one of the basement clubs before the UFA period starts. That might put them back in the Gaudreau sweepstakes.
I saw where they weren’t interested in paying the price to do so

Heck if we could find a team to eat at least 2.5 million of his cap hit, I would let Philly pay us to move him.

Signing Giroux or do we do a trade for that no one is talking about? Swing for Toews? Unless we get a good deal, Kane too?

Would love Tkachuk but that is unlikely

Analytics are pretty high on their recent Romanov pickup. We'll see, of course.
These are just WAR ratings based off teams rosters as they stand today. Its always interesting to me to see how these models change after teams add their free agents.

Dang that is a little short of 40-50 million for Kane. ShOcKer

Kane must have got a lot of negative vibes when talking to other teams cuz signing for 4 years doesn’t make any sense.

Canes FO can spend the money if they absolutely have to. They just don't when they don't need to. I see Aho and Slavin as the only two must-keep UFAs-to-be in the entire franchise.

I agree they can spend and will if needed.

I read BDC's post a little differently though. Calgary DID try and spend the money on Gaudreau and he still left. So even if the FO opens the checkbook, there's no guarantee any UFA is staying. Not saying the same will happen with Aho and Slavin, but the Gaudreau situation shows that just willing to spend money doesn't guarantee it.

It's why I never really understood people just handwaving our failures in the playoffs away in the last season or two. A lot could change in just a year or two. Nothing is given in this league. For all anyone knows, the ECF 3 years ago could be the peak of this particular core.
I actually think the last 2 was our peak at this point, unless we get breakouts from Svech and Jarvis.

My bet is Aho leaves in 2 years. Slavin probably stays, unless we go down the toilet, which we may.

I have us as a bubble team this year at the moment. Commence the attacks. That can change over the next week, but I have my doubts when looking at FA and what we have and what has / will be leaving. Nino was ok, but I will miss Tro's physicality.

Probably not.
Lots can happen between now and then. If we fall off or get pennywise with him, I can see it happening. I'd like to think that Aho and Slavin are basically blank checks. I mean martinook at 1.8 is an absolute joke. That's what irritates me about this FO. They'll pay Martinook 1.8 and then devalue other players.
