I'm not crowing about it. I'm giving a general overview about what the Canes did last offseason, as far as timeline is concerned. My opinion is neutral about Kotkaniemi except about the fact that I believe that it was a futures move and not a right-now move, and that many are jumping the gun too quickly about whether the move is good or bad.
agree...my view is that he is a 3rd line Staal replacement starting next year.

Staal retires, goes elsewhere or is 4th line C for us.

I for one would be pretty stoked on Burns, dude is a minute eater one of the most fit players in the league and takes his training very seriously. He's a shot blocking machine and would probabaly look pretty good beside of Slavin.

The contract goes until he's 40. He's pretty slow and is likely to get burned by fast teams like... you know...
He looks slow in huge part because he's playing 26 minutes a game. Workload matters. Bring that down to 20, and I think you'll be surprised. And players can be slower without getting burnt if they know not to get caught, and Burns isn't exactly an idiot defensively.

I don't want to pay more than 4 for Burns. Even that is a lot for a contract that takes him to 40.

I think that's a fair take, and I suspect that'll be what's happening, depending on if we take a little less retention to get rid of Gardiner's contract or something along those lines.
