Remember reading about this kid earlier in the year and came across this video that shows clips of him from 4:41-6:31 and throughout the video.

His skating is INSANE, I can see why he has his own thread 6 years in advance . Will be interesting to see if he actually pans out, but wow, those Mario comparisons mentioned in the video might not actually be far off .

His skating is great for his age but players will catch up to what he is doing as a 12 year old.

Sure, but unless something pretty uncommon happens, he should be a great skater as an adult. How much the rest of his game develops is an open question, but you could've said the same for all the other true standout players at that age and quite a few of them become good NHLers -- perhaps most?

I've watched him play in a couple of games vs my brother's team. The first thing I thought to myself was "Wow, this kid's gonna play in the NHL one day". So advanced for his age, not undersized by any stretch.

Yeah, I bet he'll be a NHL player but skating like this in the CHL won't be uncommon and that's where his puck skills will come into play and if he can develop that to a high level he has a good chance of being a NHL star.

How does he compare to 2000 born star joey veleno who is playing a year up in midget. What are some differences and similarities in their games. Who projects to be the better player down the road?

I heard about Xavier a lot this year due to him dominating at the Quebec Peewee tournament. Some have said he is the best 2001 in all of North America. Definitely possible.

I think they are holding him back a bit too long though. The way he has dominated he has nothing left to prove at the peewee level.

Pretty sure the QAAA is giving him exceptional status when he's 14.

Kid looks great. Also i've seen probably at least 100 Xavier Parents over the years in NHL games

Joey was more physically developed at the same age, also taller. Better to in my opinion, but Parent probably dominates more on skill at the same age.

I wonder, purely hypothetically, what happens to his NHL draft position if he grows to be now taller than 5'9 and 170lbs at his draft?

Not projecting him to actually be that size, but would we be looking at another Gaudreau situation (aka taken past the first round)?

With the OHL granting both McDavid and Ekblad exceptional player status recently, is it possible that the QMJHL grants this kid exceptional player status in 2016?

The Q has historically been a lot more wary of granting exceptional status. Crosby didn't even get the exemption.

As a matter of fact, who's the last Q prospect that got exceptional status?

EDIT: apparently, only the OHL allows it at the moment.

Veleno has 14 points in 9 games this season, doubt he get its, unless he absolutely dominates I think, but this kid is much better from the sounds of it, wasn't he at 4 pts per game last season.

How's he doing this season?
