30 is a good guess. For example, Kuznetsov's career %FO in the KHL playoffs (somewhat similar competition to the NHL centers in terms of faceoffs) is 25.8 even though he's bigger, stronger and and was 20-21 years old during those games. And I don't think TT is that much better in this case, so there's absolutely no way he could win ~45% of them right away.

Crosby won only one of five faceoffs he took against Teravainen in September in a game where he (Crosby) had a total of 60% going 100% against Sharp, Leblanc and Saad. Teravainen was 80% against Crosby and 56% total in the pre-season game against Penguins, that's all the face-off data I could find on Teravainen against NHL level competition.

I think I could bet on TT being over 45% right away as he was over 50% in FEL already last season.

This makes no sense. Just look at this:

Kuzetsov's FO% in KHL is 25.8%. He's bigger, stronger and older than Teräväinen.

Therefore Teräväinen is bad at faceoffs.

Kuznetsov's % probably just means that he's bad at faceoffs. You can't make a prediction on someone based on another persons stats.

Lindholm won 66% of face-offs in the WJC and he's at 46% in the NHL while TT won "only" 50% of his face-offs there..

But yes, I guess 30% was way off and he would manage to win 40-50%. I don't think there exist any kind of evidence to be more accurate than that.

Yes, can't wait for TT to come over, finish out the regular season and go on his first Cup run. Chicago really needs a spark and he is exactly the guy to give it. I don't care what anyone says, he is a much better player than Handzus and Regin right now and it will show on the ice and in the standings.

So Teräväinen to Chicago on Sunday night? :naughty:

From looking at the boxscore, it looks like Jokerit had a terrible game against Karpat today. They took 10 minor penalties and gave up 4 power play goals in losing 5-1. And the shame of it is that the Blues lost so if Jokerit would have won, they would have been in 6th place and avoided the play-in round. Now, they're in 7th place and since HPK beat HIFK and moved into 10th place, Jokerit is going to have to face Juuse Saros who is the latest goalie phenom coming out of Finland - the same goalie that backstopped the U20 team to the WJC Gold Medal.

TT left the last game after the second period with the flu, can anyone who watched the game comment on how TT played today and whether he played on the PK unit?

TT plays a lot on both pk and pp. I think it started after the junior WC. He didn't play any PK before that but he was a great penalty killer in WJC so he earned his spot after that. And he is great at it. I don't want to compare him to Datsyuk but he has that same ability to lift those sticks and steal the pucks. He doesn't dive in front of shots but he knows when to pressure and how to steal pucks.

Not much to say from the game against Karpat. Jokerit took too many penalties and it was basicly men against boys. I'm a Jokerit fan but i'm starting to hope we get eliminated and for Teravainen to go to Chicago. And tomorrow will be nice to see our hometown boy Pulkkinen for a first time in the Nhl.

Bit of a small sample size, I'm sure Hawks aren't going to be putting him out there for defensive zone draws (or not without a better FO man). Guys who aren't great at FOs just have to be managed carefully in terms of zone starts. Pens managed to make things work when Malkin was terrible at FOs and Staal was merely adequate. As long as he's not under 40% it's manageable.

Excited to see what this kid can do, lets see if Calgary made a big mistake, or a massive mistake passing on him for Jankowski

Huh? Jankowski went 4 picks AFTER Teravainen. Maybe you've got the wrong Finn? Maata went right after Jankowski.

Wonder how quickly he can get to Chicago? Ready to play in next weekend?
