Not even a late pick! Several players were clearly worse prospects. Bad interviewee?
I don't have a good insight to this draft class, but who would you say were "clearly worse" prospects and got selected before him?

All it takes is for team to like another player more.

I understand why he wasn't a first round pick. He's a one way winger that isn't that tall and doesn't have the best hockey sense.

But this guy is a brilliant skater with great stick skills and a lot of production the last few years. He will be an NHL winger, in my opinion. Getting him in the second or third round is great value.

Sudbury still owns his rights in the OHL. I assume the plan for Tuomaala is to play in Liiga though

Flyers decide where he will play after the the training camp, Sudbury seems likely, since there isn't any room for him with Kärpät.
Seems like a fairly well plotted development plan. Finland U20 as a 17yo, OHL as an 18yo, then perhaps AHL as a 19yo, if all goes well this year. I don't know a lot about the strength of Finland's U20 league, but I would imagine that the CHL is at least as good, and maybe better. Pretty sure he'll be given lots of ice time in Sudbury if he goes there.

Tuomaala himself said he expects to play in the AHL but I don't really think he is ready for that yet.

Tuomaala is definitely a guy whose stock has fallen since the draft. 24 games last season in AHL and Liiga with 1 goal and 2 points is pretty bad. In the games Tuomaala played with Jukurit, he seemed pretty useless. Most definitely should've gone to play in OHL last season. Next season is certainly big for Tuomaala. Needs to score and look like a useful player at Liiga level, or else there's not much hope left that he can be an NHL player.

A low hockey IQ speedster in the similar way that Brad Lambert is. Well, Lambert has a bit better skating and better hands but I would say that Tuomaala has the better shot. Anyway both are missing the hockey smarts way too much, so I’m not really betting on them becoming NHL players. Well, I would say Lambert is still likelier to have an NHL career, but I wouldn’t count on his successful NHL career really very much either.

Tuomaala makes me think of "poor man's Kasperi Kapanen".
