What does he have to do to overtake Schaefer as number one? He has 40 points in 16 games in 2025 so far. If he keeps up that pace during the rest of the regular season he will finish with 146 points in 65 games. I know it’s highly unlikely that he keeps this up but if he does, will it be enough to overtake Schaefer as the consensus number one?

Although, I guess the playoffs and/or the U18 will influence his draft stock more than the remaining part of the regular season.

They are going to play Erie in round 1. Its just a matter of who gets home ice in the 4/5 matchup. Could be a fun match up if Schaefer is back by then. Going to be a short playoff though for whoever wins that series because they'd face London in round 2. Neither Erie or Saginaw are beating London. Could end up with 10-13 playoff games before he hits the offseason. But I mean by that point he'll have a full season of work plus a couple prospect games. The body of work will be established. I guess if he really pops off in the playoffs too it could push him over the top. Likewise Schaefer could ease everyone's concerns if he does well in the series and then there's nothing Misa can do. Just tap your stick at a fellow great prospect.

Since Chernyshov arrived Misa has been on pace to finish the season with 151 points at 2.71ppg (7-12-19 in 7 games). He will slow down, but I think it's possible that he surpasses 2.23ppg Sam Gagner and has the second best ppg season in the last 30 years, behind only McDavid. In fact, he could even surpass Bedard's 143 points in the WHL, which would be bizarre, even with a few more games.

If he keeps this pace up and finished the season around 140 points, he will make a compelling case against picking Schaefer #1. I think at that point, as long as both are healthy in June, it will come down to the team picking him and positional needs. If it's San Jose, they're more in need of a defenseman. If it's Chicago or Buffalo, they'd probably take a forward. If it's Nashville, well that would be hilarious but I don't know what they would do.

If Misa plays the way he has since Chernyshov's arrival through the playoffs, then I think he is a legitimate challenger, and teams like Chicago, Buffalo, and Nashville would strongly consider taking him #1. Misa is the only one out of the big three forwards who has stepped up since Schaefer went down at this point, and if he keeps it up then he's absolutely a legitimate #1OA candidate.

Upsetting London in the playoffs would seal it for me. The Epperson-Misa-Chernyshov line backed by Parekh could be enough to win a series on its own if Oke can stop a beach ball regularly.

I love watching this line but noooooooo. The problem is that lines 2-4 won't do much against London and Saginaw doesn't have the defensive depth. That first line would have to put up 4 goals a game against the Knights. No way they do that. They can manage 2 or so but depth is a problem once you get to round 2.
