His brother is a ++ skater. One of the two fastest in the Flames organization. This guy will be the annual example of GMs and scouts overthinking size
I've seen a few comments about the flames in this thread and assumed this guy was somehow the younger brother of Emile Poirer. Couldnt believe flames fans wanted to draft him because of that.... looked it up and it makes more sense now lol

Of course he went to Carolina. I thought there was a chance for Calgary, but leave it to Carolina to steal an NHL'er in the fifth round due to sizeitis.

I don't think you understand what ceiling / floor means... which is surprising for someone visiting this site since 2016.

As for Poirier, I don’t think he makes it, so therefore, imo, his ceiling is below NHL level. It’s possible he doesn’t even stick at the AHL level.

His skating concerns are way overblown.
No, they aren’t. He’s a small offensive winger who lacks acceleration, power, and speed in his skating. Name one NHL player who fits that profile. The concerns are completely justified, considering his size and the type of player he is.

Besides, that isn’t even the only concern with him. His shot is good, but not elite. And he does absolutely nothing else well aside from score at the junior level. He’s pretty much as one dimensional as it gets. Considering the obstacles he’s going to have to overcome to be able to play his style of game at the pro level, combined with his available tools, I’d say the odds of him being successful in the NHL are quite long.

You got to be the biggest hater in these threads. The guy is on pace to be one of the greatest goal scorers in modern Q history. You don’t have a “good” shot when you’re scoring like he is. Also, power is something that can be fixed at the NHL level especially with RBA as his coach. Just look at Seth Jarvis and Jackson Blake. The concerns about skating are overblown because at the end of the day as long as you’re not a completely awful skater you can be successful at the NHL level like Kotkaniemi or Jordan Staal.

“Kotkaniemi or Jordan Staal”. Those guys are 6’3” and 6’4”. This guy is 5’7” or 5’8”, and a worse skater than both those guys. And that’s saying something because Kotkaniemi is not a good skater at all.

Seth Jarvis? Why would you even bring him up here? That highlights the exact problem with Poirier. Jarvis is extremely quick and shifty and although not the fastest in the NHL, he is fast. Poirier is not. Not even for the Q.

And sharing a common opinion is hating? Did I say anything personal about Poirier? Ohh lol, you’re a Canes fan and I said something you don’t want to hear. My bad.

There’s a reason he went in the 5th round, like it or not.

I said you’re hating because you were saying he would never come over to the USA in that thread. Also, you never mentioned Blake who was drafted late and was short. He was drafted late because of his height just like Swanson. You aren’t just a complete bum by scoring the most goals by a player his age since Crosby. He’s on pace for 70 goals this year which hasn’t been done in a very long time and would make him the 2nd 18-year-old in QMJHL to accomplish the feat. I’m not saying he’s going to be some insane player, but every player U19 who were top 10 in points for their career since the 10-11 QMJHL season played NHL games except one guy. He also would he coached by RBA, who is one of the best coaches when it comes to conditioning in the NHL, so his size should never pose a massive problem for him if utilized correctly. To this day Jarvis is still thrown off the puck and so is Blake, but they are able to play smart defensively and if RBA can aid in that part of Poirier’s game he will be a contributor.
