That's great to hear. Im still of the belief that if a team has multiple firsts or can afford to make a risky pick that they'd be most suited. I'd love him on the sens tbh.

Miroshnichenko-Stutzle-Yurov/Nazar/Lekkerimäki

Has the makings of an interesting lineup.
Or one of the top teams with a late pick that can sit on him for a few seasons without a need to rush him.

Sometimes there are things bigger than hockey. For top 2022 NHL Draft prospect Ivan Miroschnichenko, he learned that this season. The Russian winger was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March, ending his season and likely keeping him out for most of next year. Thankfully, the disease seems to have been caught quickly and his prognosis seems to be good.

Given that we have no real access to his medicals and even if we did, we are not doctors, this makes ranking Miroschnichenko exceptionally difficult. If he didn’t have the issues, he would have been ranked 6th on our board. However, the issue is also impossible to ignore, but its also nearly impossible to decide where to rank him. As such we are going with an Honorable Mention, and letting our readers decide where they would draft him.

I think club with multiple 1st round picks is gonna take him so either Arizona Montreal Buffalo or Anaheim I would be surprised if none of them would take him tho some teams like Tampa might take him as well

in my draft I own 16, 26 and 28
wondering if I should risk it and take him at 16 if available
Depends who else is on the board. At 26 its a no brainer. 16 a bit tougher imo because of course the uncertainty that comes with cancer. If I didnt like anyone in particular at 16 or no one really fell, then I'd probably take a swing on him. TBH with this draft there probably isn't a lot of difference in value from 16 to 26, so someone like Miroshnichenko could end up being a home run.

Glad to hear he's recovered & seems to be able to move forward.

On ice he's super intriguing. Amazing skater, great vision, great shot, not afraid to battle.

It'll be interesting to see where he goes but this could be a team getting a star player much lower than they should.

Edit: I see a lot of Kovalchuk comparisons, but I think he plays more like Kucherov. Really smart offensive player in all areas

I don't see Kucherov at all -- why are you limiting the comparisons to Russian players only? Seems pretty limiting. I like the Hossa comparrisson someone made.

Tarasenko 2.0 if he reaches his potential; power game with a sick shot.

I've thought he was a pretty smart player. But maybe I'm off, do people agree with Cam (or atleast have some IQ concerns?)

I have heard the same from a couple of posters here who know a hell of a lot more about Russian prospect than i do. Cheering for the kid because of his health concerns, myself.

Laziness prob. I was trying to think of someone who has good vision aswell as a shooter. Hossa? (And Tarasenko) Ivan is 6'1 185 is he really a bull of a player like that?

I'll have to watch more.

Yes . If I was a team with multiple firsts , this is a kid you use one of them on.
Its risky to use your only pick but if you are a steady playoff team that can somewhat take some risk and wait on a player , this is one I’d look long and hard at taking. He has top of the first round talent .

Oddly enough - was selected in the CHL import draft by Blainville-Boisbriand.

I was under the belief no Russians could be selected. but here we are.

He is eligible because he was taken in the 2021 import draft.

Still a very surprising move. Pronman reported that Miro is coming to the draft next week, clearly BLB (a team that is situated 20 minutes from Montreal when there is no traffic) will try to talk to him then.

In St. Petersburg, employees of the military recruitment office detained the goalkeeper of the Russian national hockey team Ivan Fedotov due to the fact that "there are sufficient grounds to consider Fedotov an evader from the army."

Ivan Fedotov is a 25-year-old Russian ice hockey goaltender for CSKA Moscow. In the spring of 2022, he won the Gagarin Cup with the Moscow team, then signed a contract with HC Flyers.

I am not sure Russian players will be drafted after this…

They probably still be drafted just lower in the rounds than likely. Which means potentially big steals.

CSKA is technically part of the military, so that could be part of the Fedotov story...

We know Miro was in Germany to get his cancer treatments. Looking at his recent Instagram post on June 19th, it looks like he was in Turkey. So he may have never returned to Russia recently.
