How long is Ivan locked up in his KHL deal? Is there any realistic chance they try to get him over here in the next season or two? It would be awesome to see him play with Ovechkin and it doesn't seem like Ovy has 3 or 4 years in him.

Ovi is signed through 2025-26 and he’s going to play that contract out, assuming he doesn’t get hurt. He’ll be in DC for 3+ more years. He’s said he’ll assess his future after this contract is over.

It wouldn’t allow richer teams like the Leafs to buy out KHL contracts that smaller market teams could not afford, all w/o affecting the cap. Essentially, it would be cap circumvention, and pretty blatant cap circumvention.

I’d be all for it if the buyout money went against the team’s cap.
