I don’t understand how this player made it past the second pick
Organizational need and prioritzing position.I don’t understand how this player made it past the second pick
Anaheim often goes off the board. And considering Sennecke was expected to be a project and is having this type of D+1 season, I can still still see an argument.Organizational need and prioritzing position.
A big minute logging 2-way RHD is very sought after. Montreal took Reinbacher over Michkov. Sometimes, safer is more popular. But for me, Sennecke and Lindstrom over him made no sense.
I mean
Let's define generational for this era
Multiple 120 plus seasons?
I'd love too
But besides McDavid these was no prospect I would have labeled generational in the past 10 years, call me picky
I mean, no he is absolutely not generational. Generational would mean he was putting up 100 pts in the nhl this season like McDavid and Crosby were.Is he generational now? Asking for some habs fans that are in denial

Marchenko, Fantilli, and Chinakhov are small?Anaheim often goes off the board. And considering Sennecke was expected to be a project and is having this type of D+1 season, I can still still see an argument.
Columbus already has a million skilled, small forwards. Johnson, Marchenko, Fantilli, Chinakhov, Brindley, etc.
Demidov may have the highest ceiling and most likely to become a superstar, but you still need to build a team. If you consistently draft BPA you end up in Buffalo's situation.
Sennecke is great, and he'll be a magician in the league. Do a 2024 redraft five years later, he's likely going third or fourth. Chicago and Columbus are the one who made a huge mistake that'll prevent them from being contenders for years(unless they get Mckenna or Dupont). Irrespective of their positions, Lindstrom and Levshunov are nowhere near close to the talent and impact Demidov will bring to a team.Organizational need and prioritzing position.

Thank godbedard demidov would’ve dominated the league for the next decade+. this year’s draft doesn’t really have any forward as talented. the blackhawks done f***ed up
I bet on the Habs taking every single other player around the top picks because I didn't think we even had a chance to actually get him.

Makes sense why the hawks tried to trade their 2025 unprotected 1st for the 4th overall pick last draft. They likely projected Demidov to be better than any forward from the 2025 draft.
I think they would have been far better off taking Demidov at 2 and then trying to get the Habs' pick to take Lev. They should have known it was Demidov Montreal wanted, and taken him off the board so they'd be willing to trade the pick.
I believe that Anaheim wanted Sennecke. I don't think Levshunov being available would have changed their minds.Levshunov wouldn't have made it past Anaheim at 3, so they had to take him at 2 if they wanted him
Exactly this.Organizational need and prioritzing position.

Agree even our team did the same thing last year picking Reinbacher over Michkov RD is the second most important position after centerExactly this.
Harder for Chicago to acquire a player that projects as a 1D than to acquire an elite scoring forward. Do we think there are going to be a shortage of scoring forwards that want to play with Bedard?
Demidov might end up better than Levshunov (or maybe not), but Levshunov is pretty good and having a good season. Some teams just build different from a philosophical standpoint. Some would prefer a Seider or Ekblad over a Kaprizov or Marner, and others would take the player that’ll put up more points.
Exactly, it happensExactly this.

From the habs behind the scenes thing they put out for the draft, trading the 1st (possibly just back) was an option they were/would consider.I think they would have been far better off taking Demidov at 2 and then trying to get the Habs' pick to take Lev.
