When people say 15 year old season, they mean D-3. Casually, 18 year old season = D season, 17 = d -1, 16 = d-2, 19 year old = D+1 etc

Im referring to McKenna the prospect on a prospect forum, of course me (and everyone else here) is referring to his D-3 season when we say 15 and are comparing to other players in their D-3 season.

That's why most people use the "D" system instead of whatever age a person is. Outside of a few people here, no one uses age to age comparisons. The D system eliminates arguments about 16,17,18 or whatever.

In the same season that McKenna just finished, Celebrini led the USHL in scoring by a disgusting, disgusting amount, and bypassed the Hlinka for the WJ camp.

The only tournament Bedard played in as a 15 year old he had 14 in 7 games. The only tournament he was less than a point per game was as a 16 year old in the World Juniors. McKenna never played in any international tournaments in his 15 year old season.

The USHL is a much, much weaker league than the WHL and Celebrini was 16 for his full 16 year old season while McKenna was 15 until December. It is not really comparable. Maybe Celebrini would’ve put up similar numbers to McKenna in his 16 y/o season due to better linemates (although McKenna was certainly his team’s offensive driver), but what McKenna did is certainly worth special attention.

Of course it’s worth special attention, he’s the consensus 1st overall for a reason, same as Celebrini.

It is not much, much weaker with emphasis put on the second much. It’s probably weaker, but any sort of much weaker would be overdoing it.

Nope, it is much much weaker. Because it is a feeder league for the NCAA, at the top talent level it punches above the BCHL and CHL feeder leagues and therefore it does fairly well in terms draft picks, but outside the top talent the depth is 2-3 steps lower than the CHL. The USHL is also a younger league than the CHL, which exacerbates the skill difference. It’s why Celebrini, who would’ve been a 70-85 pt player as a 16 year old in the WHL most likely, can walk into the USHL as a 16 year old and instantly be the best player in the league.
