Amount of teams in the groups:
13
8
6
6
5
6

See, you might have a point if this group did not have 5 more teams than any other group. It might be justifiable if the teams were all competitive, but as is there really is no need for such a large amount of teams in one group. Also, the fed's supposed to actively avoid having such large skill discrepancies but of course, we know how successful they are at doing so.
Yeah i only now checked that trainwreck site of liitto and saw they have a different system in place now. Back in the day atleast south AAA was divided like i posted earlier. Do they fuse those groups with other regions now or just play with the same groups all season? I agree 13 is too much compared to others but tbf south is the largest region by population so idk maybe 10 would be good.

Still don't really get this player. Very productive to be sure but when watching him I just don't see anything. Has displayed no hands to speak of, doesn't seem to have a shot, not much of a skater and the vast majority of his passes are completely obvious and nothing crazy, unexpected or creative. If he actually has these attributes and has to play like this due to playing at this level then I think that he should be playing lower. If he actually doesn't have these attributes I have to wonder how he'll do in the future.

Seems to have crazy good hockey IQ though. I can at least see it very clearly from what I have seen from his play. Players who have extremely high hockey IQ look often less flashy to many people.

In my opinion it is in fact a lot better for him to play exactly against the much older and physically stronger players as he anyway is producing crazy good. This way he will be more forced and alert to develop his other skills and physique more, as he can see that in some areas he isn’t exceptional against the older and more developed players.

A very interesting prospect in my opinion. Seems that in the best scenario he could become something very special, at least if he will be able to develop well physically in the future. In my opinion it is very promising that he isn’t being really productive because of much else than extremely high hockey IQ. But of course he is so young, that I wouldn’t really expect him to become something very special. It will anyway be interesting to occasionally follow how he is doing with his development.

That's true in that he seemed to have good positioning, made some good defensive plays, go to the pucks well and so on, but I still would expect some standout attributes, and what especially caught me is how little he held the puck, essentially he just passes it off immediately and very rarely holds onto it for even a second. That of course can be a good thing but I also would say that he's not exactly doing a ton of play driving, but is more of a complementary player and pretty reliant on his teammates actually getting things done. I guess that's not a bad thing but the contrast is quite significant to Aron Kiviharju who I also watched a lot at the same age, since he was constantly actively driving the play.

At this point I'd say that high hockey IQ is a given but I at least need to see him to show something at a bit higher level, aka for him to get a bit older before I get as excited for him as his production would in a vacuum warrant. It's very possible he needs to play this sort of "survival hockey" since he's a good head shorter than everyone else.

Perhaps some tournaments in his own age group, or WSI international competitions to show how he plays against his peers...

A topic has already been opened but cannot be continued.

Karjalahti played the WSI 14 tournament with a year upgrade and more, he was born at the end of the year.

Things seem to have gone well.

It's a good thing this site is called Hockey future and we've been talking about this player on the site for 1 year.

WSI-titled events often reveal the big players of tomorrow for the first time. Regarding Karjalahti, this is not really the case. It's a confirmation of his status as a future Finnish prodigy.

Seems wayyy too early.. even on this site...

I am tired of this kind of remarks which come up constantly. Once again : look at the list of WSI U12 top scorers for the 2015-2016 season: you will see at the top of the list Shane Wright, Matthew Savoie, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Joakim Kemell, Rutger McGroarty, Juraj Slafkovsky and even Aron Kiviharju, only 10 years old. I'm not talking about any player. I'm talking about a player who stands out very well in U15 Finland and who continues to confirm. It's the same on all topics. Always the same reactions: it's too early. Kiviharju was only 11 at the start of his topic. Was it too early in 2017? No. The guy stood out. Even if the player doesn't walk, it's not uninteresting how brilliant that player was. That's the interest.

If you think it's too early, don't go on the topic. But let the others have fun around the Pee-Wee players.

Height 5'3" and weight 119 lbs.

Will be interesting to see if he can even play U16 SM-Liiga next season. I guess there's something to be said about him being able to play 2 years up while being this small. These are the most difficult years and it should become easier in some time.

The Pee-Wee category is very fun to watch because you see young people playing who are very emotional and very spontaneous.

However, Karjalahti plays in a bantam league (U15).

This player was already mentioned at the start of the season by a user who presented him as the best Finnish player of his generation.

I just mentioned his presence at the WSI U14 tournament where he played with Rasmus Rinne and the whole class of 2008.

Not a crime.

I don't see the point of having to refrain from speaking because of age.

Information is better than no information.

Personally, I assume that any exceptional player who does rare things should be mentioned.

When Bedard, at the same age as Karjalahti, does something exceptional in U13, it is mentioned and it deserves to be.

There, Karjalahti makes a good statistical tournament in the higher category.

What makes topics interesting is seeing how they evolve over time.

Wright, Bedard, Kiviharju I know. Even the best Canadian 2007, I already know them all. Since a long time. I have seen their evolution for several years.

I just want to introduce Frans Karjalahti to the users of the site. And again, this is an user from this site who have made me discover him. There are already many videos that present this player on Youtube.

Those who want to discover and see him evolve in the coming years are invited to do so.

Those who find that they don't want to hear about him are free to do so.

Next up! 13 year old Nolan Rohrback get a thread because he scored over PPG as an underager at a tournament for 14 year olds!

Wrong. Frans Karjalahti was the only underage player participating in the tournament.
Its very early but if he ends up being something good, well you called it. Time will tell.
It's not he who called it. This player's had a thread for a while.

There have been relatively few players who played in WSI u14 as a u13 player. Top 5 in alltime scoring:

1. Aron Kiviharju 21 points
2. Frans Karjalahti 7 points
3. Dominik Petr 6 points
4. Maros Jedlicka 4 points
5. Nikita Shalyshkin 3 points

But Karjalahti was born in late November, he's almost a double underager.

Overall, it's a strong and significant performance, but not exactly mindblowing either.

He is simply the Finnish player born at the end of the 2000s (2007-2008-2009), the most interesting to follow for the next few years.

He is not mentioned as the number 1 of the 2028 draft with such a small sample and such a low knowledge of the level of the players of his future promotion.

But the chances of being a protagonist of this promotion are great.

The real creator of the topic said that he had started his first U14 games at 9 years old (end of the 2018-19 season), that he was playing in U14 in 2019-20. He seemed to be shooting over 2PPG in U15 this year.

Has always accompanied the best Finnish players in 2008 in events.

Such a systematic upgrade can only be the consequence of a player who is out of the ordinary.

And obviously, it's a technical aspect that leads him to be outclassed. Not physical.

He should make his first games in U16 next year, at the end of the season.

In his development, he is ahead of what Lundell, Raty or Lambert were doing at the same age.

Where does it end? Any 6 year olds playing Novice who should be in tyke? Get the thread started ASAP!!!!

There are literally 100's of 12 year olds that could potentially be the #1 overall pick in 2028. So much development will occur in the next few years...that is when this will be thread worthy.

He played in WSI u14...

I first took notice of Connor Bedard when he played in WSI u13 and scored 24 goals in 7 games there. Connor Bedard's looking pretty good right now.

I first took notice of Shane Wright and Matthew Savoie and Juraj Slafkovsky when they all finished in top 5 in WSI u13 scoring. They're looking pretty good right now.

Actually, even in WSI u12 in 2016 the top 3 in scoring is Savoie, Miroshinichenko and Wright. Now, Miroshinichenko would probably be a top 3 prospect if not for his health. And Rutger McGroarty is also a pretty big name, he finished 4th in scoring. Kemell was 6th. That was when they were 11 or 12 years old.

But sure, let's pretend that you can tell nothing about players when they're 11 or 12, despite history.

No, there aren't 100. Not even 10 unless it's a year like 2021 where no one really stands out.

At 11-12 years old, the sorting is already done. To perform in hockey, you have to start very early, at 4 years old and most of the learning is done at 12 years old.

It was at this age that Wright, Bedard and Kiviharju established themselves as the No. 1 draft players. It hasn't changed since.

If I challenge this title to Karjalahti it's because his performances are less exceptional, because I don't know any player born in 2010. It's going to be very difficult to get an idea of the Russians before the MHL now.

From the moment the player has confronted the best players in the world of his age, we can get an idea.

Karjalahti has been detected gifted by Finland hockey for several years. It deserves attention.

I prefer to talk about him at 12 and a half than random players aged 14-15 who are simply very good provincial players.

The recent past demonstrates that all gifted 12-year-old players have become great prospects.

There is some continuity in hockey when it comes to elite talent.

The player who will be number 1 in 2028 is necessarily a player who dominates very largely against older players today. A guy who is a Pee-Wee age (U13) but walks hard in Bantam (U14-U15).
