I'm really warming up to this draft and Nazar is going to be the gem of the bunch...everything I read about this guy is glowing. The name Kirby Dach will be long gone from memory when Nazar makes it to the bigs.
That depends on how he does with the Habs.

If Dach takes a step forward with MTL next season you'd bet your ass they'll be a metric shit ton of bitching.

I'm not as butthurt as most about Teravainen because I'm convinced it wouldn't have happened here. Same for Dach.

My sense is most people are fine with the Dach trade. If he figures things out, fine, but it wasn’t coming together here. He was absolutely mismanaged, but it’s also on him. Dach is extremely flawed, and I think it’s most likely he becomes a 3c at best. I’m much more excited about Nazar.

We should all have learned from past cautionary tales, or in this case "cautionary videos", that prospect highlight videos put the best possible shine on what most times ends up being far less than reality. It's nice to watch the whirling dervish dipsy doo's and the OMG snipes but usually those are not the sum of the players game - they are only highlights. At most they give a sense of the players potential IF everything goes right in his development arc.

That said - I think Nazar and Korchinski are 2 of the best all around skating prospects the Hawks have drafted in quite some time. The combination of front line speed, burst, lateral, edge work, and balance look to be above NHL average. It doesn't mean it will translate to NHL ability - but they have a pretty good chance and I'm jacked on these two guys.

That video obviously illustrates his skills but what impressed me most is when the play isn't clean, i.e. he didn't undress the guy and had to compete for the puck to continue the play.

THAT was what is missing in Dach's play. How many times did I see Dach with his face up to the rafters in frustration? Hated it. Stay with the play, get on your horse and chase the guy/puck down.

Love this pick. (would Barzal be a comp for him? I see it style wise but looking for input)

Overall, I'm happy with draft and where we are headed. KM can't undo or be held responsible for what happened before, he needs to move forward., and he is.
He said he tries to model his game after Point.

Dach has a lot of holes to his game for being in the league nearly 3 years.....yes, there's potential, but I think the return was outstanding.

Will Nazar be able to blow by guys in the NHL like he is in these highlights? Is there a significant difference in speed between CHL and NHL skaters?

I take these prospect highlight videos with a grain of salt because the play openings available to a CHLer may not be available in the NHL due to the speed and power of the game being ratcheted way up

You know how Hagel was always beating guys to the puck, and stopping icings?

Nazar has that kind of speed.

Of course it's going to be more difficult blowing past NHLers than USHLers or NCAA players, but that speed is still a big asset.

Will he be ready for next season? The year after?

It'll be a few years until you see any of these kids with the big club. We're in for a few years of baddddd Hawks teams unfortunately.

I'm going to watch a bunch of Sens games this year and if they trade Kane I'll be watching whatever team he goes to as well. I'd love to watch him and Panarin dazzle again for old time's sake.

If you like the play at 9:28 and trust the person commenting the game in French, he says that it’s a play Nazar makes all the time. He says, as soon as Nazar sees his team with possession and a head up, he will attack center ice with speed.

So, if he continues to work on his PK ability it sounds like he will be a threat to score on the PK.
