I'm not going to look at it as Dawson got screwed. Because that's silly.

I'll instead look at it as Dawson rocks. Because he agreed to a contract that is perfect for the team, as well.

Thanks for rocking, Dawson!

Absolutely. He has always given off that vibe and this contract is another illustration of that. High character player who would sacrifice a little money to help the team win a Cup.

His rookie year too he had the great start to the season with Bratt where he had 14 pts in 19 games. Then went cold with 12 in 31. Then put with Jack and has 15 in 20. Jack gets hurt and he finishes the year with an abysmal 2 in 13.

Mercer at this point is a decent complimentary top 6 scorer who can produce when playing with talent (last year couldn't even do that) but turns into a ghost if he's in the bottom 6. He does have the tools to also be an effective defensive player but that has never translated to actual results yet.

If he can be a 25-30 goal 55-65 pt guy who can also have a good defensive impact and be a solid PKer then that'd be tremendous. It's certainly a possibility for him. Just need to see it happen.

Yeah, I thought he'd have a Parise ceiling but he's just too inconsistent for that which is a shame. If he can turn into a Palmieri type like you said at the bottom, I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat.

He didn't sacrifice anything lmao. He got the most he could with his very tiny leverage

He didn't sign until the day before training camp. That's not something guys do when they're taking hometown discounts.

That 3rd year is absolutely a sacrifice. A very big sacrifice...

And I am positive the team insisted on it.

And I'm sure they tried to do the same thing to Bratt in his first deal after his ELC... but Bratt and his agent managed to win and get the two year deal.

I'm glad you mentioned Bratt.

Bratt "won" coming off a SIGNIFICANTLY better contract year than mercer. He got 5.5 mill total over the next two years.

And the best case scenario for him came true (the one you claim mercer is missing out on). In year two, he became a legit star, 21st in the league in Even Strength scoring (ahead of McDavid), just under a PPG.

He then got a 1 year, 5.45 mill deal to get him to a grand total of.....

11 million dollars in the 3 years post ELC. Or 1 mill less than mercer will get on his 3 year deal.

Mercer played hardball all summer. 4x3 is generous based on the year he had and his lack of leverage.

You are continuing to f*** up the years

The 1 year 5.45 million dollar deal Bratt signed on the door step of arbitration was AFTER his two year 2.75 AAV.

Bratt signed that two year deal after never producing more than 35 points in a season and his points totals decreasing in each year of his ELC...

You are comparing Bratt's 3rd contract to Dawson's 2nd.

Bratt is on his 4th contract now
- ELC
- 2.75 per for 2 years
- 5.45 1 year
- 8 year 63 million

That’s the point the poster above was making…Bratt got what you wanted Mercer to get with no leverage, a two year deal to put the screws to the team the last year before UFA. And Bratt got less total money in his three post ELC/pre UFA years than Mercer just did.

You claimed that Bratt getting a 2 year bridge instead of 3 years was a MASSIVE win for him and his agent.

You have claimed that Mercer is throwing away massive earnings potential if he breaks out by taking a 3 year deal.

So let's look at bratt.

He got a 2 year deal post ELC coming off a better contract year than mercer by far. He then had the absolute BEST case scenario you can have for a bridge deal, which is breaking out in your contract year. and in the end, he still made less money in the 3 years after his ELC than Mercer will.

Let's just hope Mercer is motivated to show mean old Tom Fitzgerald what a mistake he made in not signing him long term by producing more like 2022-23 than last year.

Yup exactly.

And bratt hit best case scenario in terms of performance in that 2 year deal

He had 73 points in 76 games, with FIFTY THREE coming at even strength.

Points/60 EV sandwiched between Kucherov, Barkov, Marchand, and McDavid. I can almost guarantee Dawson Mercer will not be at that level in 25-26

Yes. Jesper bratt signed a 2 year deal then a 1 year deal. 2+1=3 (huge if true).

Bratt in his 3 years post ELC made 11 million dollars.
Mercer in his 3 years post ELC will make 12 million dollars.

Mercer's agent did a LOT better for him than Bratt's agent.

Bratt didn't come off a better year in 2020.... guy was getting scratched in his contract year and had a foot injury....he was terrible defensively and Hynes even called him out in the media on a couple occasions

Dawson is not earning more in today's dollar

Bratt earned 10.9 million in those 3 years after his ELC....the first 2 year deal was right in the Middle of COVID in 2020 with a dead cap. His next Deal in 2022 was still in a dead cap.

In today's dollars you can tack on 25 to 30% easily.
