This is most definitely Granato's last season in Wisconsin, which makes me very sad as a Gopher fan.Wisconsin is so bad. They are 2-8 and have only scored 2 goals in their last 4 games.
It’s going to be a tough season for Stramel and everyone else on that team.
This is the NCAA team I always shutter when good prospects go to play there. I think Granato is completely overrated.
Why is it his last season? This is most definitely Granato's last season in Wisconsin, which makes me very sad as a Gopher fan.
Wheeler is one of the worst evaluators of talent in the business. Just flat out clueless, but what can you expect from a guy who spent his entire life playing house league hockey and can barely skate. I know that’s not a prerequisite to knowing the game, but he knows squat. Decent writer and that’s it. His opinions mirror the online Twitter scouting community consensus, and 99% of them don’t watch games. Just copy each other’s list and move a plauer or two around a few spots to make it look originalI saw that also.
Wheeler doesn’t like Stramel. This is well documented. He didn’t like Gauthier either. Interesting that he likes Fantilli so much, who is similar to those players. I guess a lot of secondary assists on the most talented team in college hockey will do that for you.
I’ve mentioned before that the season comparable to look to is Dylan Holloway. They play a similar style and are late birthdays that played their draft season at Wisconsin.
Holloway had 3 points in his first 8 games, and 17 points in 35 games. He was 8th on the team in points and he got drafted 14th. That team was bad, but they were a high scoring team. Their goaltending sucked. This Wisconsin team can’t score.
Stramel will be fine. It’s laughable where Wheeler has him.
I also previously debunked Wheeler’s constant claim that Stramel is the third wheel on his line.
Quoted below. I’m sure Wheeler reads this website. Not looking to antagonize him. If I’m wrong, explain why because I explained why that take is wrong.
This draft is overrated, it’s not much different than most drafts outside of the top 3-4 prospects. Look at a guy like cal Ritchie, projected top 10 pick and might not even finish PPG this year. Not many good D in the first round at all and Cam Allen doesn’t look like a top prospect either. Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov are all legit but the rest of the draft is run of the millHe could come around.. I didn't even like him last year though. I haven't seen really anything that stands out about his skill set. He's decent offensively and it's in a nice physical package but that doesn't really lend itself to being a top 20 pick in a draft like this.
Lawson Crouse would still go in the top half of the first round of his draft year. This is the kind of thinking that gets Lawson Crouse and Pavel Zacha drafted in the top half of the 1st round of deepest draft in a decade.

TouchéUmmm no he wouldn't. Not by a mile.

Yeah you’re right, looking at that list right now and it’s incredible how many good players the draft has netted so far.You might of been right in most years, but that just happened to be a hell of a draft
He had 2 points. 3 in his last 2. He's picking it up. Most people are putting Stramel way too low in rankings. He won't fall out of the top 15.
He's 52% on face-offs in the NCAA as a U18 freshman having taken over 200 face-offs so far this season. Thats good.
Another comparison I saw recently is Lawson Crouse. Crouse was viewed as a bust for a long time, and probably won't justify his draft position, but he's starting to become a top 6 NHL'er. If Stramel can't stick at center, Crouse could be a good comparison.Watching him at Wisco, David Backes is the comp I'd use. Stramel is a better skater though. His release is really good and he's physical. Like most power forward types, it may take some time for him to put it all together, but he has the tools I think.
Granato was a waste. He might get some good teammates now.His coach is out, if he wants to transfer to the Gophers after making the wrong decision the first time.
He's going to play one, maximum two more years there. That is not enough time to overhaul the roster around him.Granato was a waste. He might get some good teammates now.
