F Charlie Stramel - Michigan State University, NCAA (2023, 21st, MIN)

You can tell his stats are a product of being around better players now. He still doesn’t look like an NHL prospect. Especially not a first rounder. He might carve out a 4th line face-off specialist career.
Last year he was playing on the 4rth line, of course his stats were shit.

I do not agree with you, I watch him a few time this year and I still see a middle line upside. I do not think he can become a top 6 player thought

Does he go back or sign after the season? Since he was in NCAA prior to draft, his must sign is August 15, 2026. Hometown team so maybe he just signs after Senior year anyways, but the late NCAA breakouts are usually always the most scary for the August 15th UFA route.

Stramel won't run out the clock to UFA, I kinda expect him to sign after State is done, but that would likely mean he gets sent to Iowa to play in the A for bit. Go back to East Lansing for one more year and more likely to get an opportunity right away for the Wild. We'll see.

He looks much better this year, but still probably just 3rd line upside, which is where I thought he'd be as a pro back when he was draft eligible.

There’s a better chance of him playing four years because of the team that drafted him than playing four years if another team drafted him.

If he straight up tells Minnesota he wants to play four years and will sign with them after, why shouldn’t they trust him? Very rarely does a player get drafted by their hometown team and then run out the clock to not sign with that team.

He's still extremely raw. He likely ends up a 3rd liner, but too early to rule out him taking another step or two. It’s very clear he is still just figuring things out. Could be we are only scratching the surface.

When i think of "raw" players, i think of ones that have the tools, but not the ability to use them. Stramel is big and fairly strong, but i don't see the skating. It can always get better, but that could be said about every prospect.

It could always be better, but I don’t know of many people who have questioned his skating over the years. He may not be prime Chris Kreider, but for 6’3 215 he skates pretty well and I think certainly at an NHL level.

He’s not yet filled out, so he’s going to get even stronger. Also, it’s clear he has skill he hasn’t learned how to employ. Skating is serviceable, above average when you consider his size. Pretty much the definition of raw. Players like him tend to take longer. I am wondering if we are watching the same player, TBH
