I’m interested to see what the diagnosis is. The mechanism of injury could have been anything from minor sprain to blown MCL+ACL+ torn medial meniscus which is a very long and difficult rehab post surgical reconstruction.

If there are signs that it’s the former then GREAT.

Sounds like nylander 2.0 to me. Every day there was hope he would return but he never did.

There is only 1 week left of the tournament , unless a miracle recovery i doubt it.

Even a minor sprain takes a few days to get back to.

I got a minor sprain and it took me 2 weeks to get back. But I was in my early 30s. I wouldn't chance it if I'd be him. And I'm Canadian.

Anyone being worried about long term effects due to knee injuries should watch a Barzal game. That ought to calm the most anxious of minds.

Or better yet Adrian Petterson in football.
He had an ACL and MCL tear and cane back 8 months later to win the MVP. Modern science has come along way

Hard to compare different sports though. For example in basketball any type of major knee ligament tear can be career ending (or career altering) because it affects the ability to jump, whereas ironically in more contact oriented sports like hockey or football they can be recoverable.

A knee is more important in football for a running back who is planting their foot in the ground and cutting every play rather than a basketball player who jots around

Not completely true. There is a reason why people are worried that Klay Thompson’s injury will adversely affect his career moving forward. A lot of good NBA players were never the same again after a major knee ligament injury; they just can’t get that same level of push off the ground and power to jump.

I'm not convinced Lafreniere proved he was the 1oa from this couple games. I still remember he is 10 months older than Byfield, last year's performance is more comparable to Byfield this year.

I'm not basing 1oa on one brief tournament, I still think it's really close.

When I first saw the injury I remarked in the game thread that I thought it did not look season ending. I would not risk it, as far as coming back this tournament, unless it's absolutely clear that there is no serious injury. However, I'm glad my initial suspicion was affirmed that the situation is not as bad as it could have been.

Him being by far the best hockey player on the ice in a game composed almost entirely of 1st/2nd rd NHL picks in the US game didn’t do anything for you? Tough crowd.

You already formed your opinion and just don't want to alter it based off what is actually happening on the ice.

Why would it have? This was the expected result from him, we know he's good we didn't learn anything new.

Not convinced Byfield has the skill or hockey iq yet to seriously challenge Lafrenière. To be fair I’ve only watched him a few times.
