Paul Kariya was not Japanese. He had half Japanese heritage. There is a mountain of a difference.

I usually think nothing of those videos because it's usually just a bunch of kids doing some nice dangles, which doesn't really translate to any type of success in the future, but that Aito kid demonstrated vision/passing/hockey sense that is just rare for that age even just in that little highlight video, so I have hopes that he'll be able to do something in the future. All depends on how he grows though.

Ya I think this is the most impressive highlight reel I have seen... Skate with is head up, seem to hover on the ice, great hands even set up play for other player clearly which is good for a player is age since he could just go around everyone on the ice twice and score every time he touches the puck.

This has an 50% chance of getting infracted, but aren't Japanese known for growing up to a height of like 5'6 or 5'7 or something...that alone kills his chances in the NHL
edit: its not even a stereotype like I thought, i looked it up and average height for male japanese: 5'731
Average Chinese are short too but go look at their basketball team....
Average white person is short too....
Hockey players are shrimps for the most part so no big deal here...
Northern chinese are usually much taller and people in the south smaller.
Well, that's what a chinese co-worker once told me. Guy was from the North and he was indeed very tall.

Sure they're not as big as basketball players but the average height of NHL players is way taller than the average height of the population

In terms of measuring against the other top major sports in North America, yeah.
Basketball players are much taller - I think the average height's like 6'6".
Football players are around 6'3"-6'6" on average and anywhere from 220-350lbs.
Baseball players are probably the closest in size to hockey players.

Dang he's really good. Hope he succeeds at higher levels (maybe even move out west to Europe or NA to improve some more). Can't deny that I'd like to see an Asian hockey star one day.
