Yeah, in the NCAA if you fight, you get a "Game Disqualification", which means you're out for that game and the next.So fighting + game misconduct = 1 game suspension?
He’s not that flashy, but who cares, he’s all substance. Big/strong, pretty physical, competes hard, strong 2-way play, borderline elite skater, great shot, very good hands and hockey IQ. He doesn’t have Eichel’s high end skill, but could be a rich man’s Beniers/Larkin. Similar game to those two, but he’s a decent margin ahead of where they were at the same age, and has better tools too IMO. Has a pretty strong shot to become a legit 1C at the NHL level.
I have a lot of trouble ranking him, Carlsson and Michkov, but they’re all great. If my team were picking in the 2-4 range, I’d be happy with any of them, at any of those positions. I don’t really get ppl being down on him because he didn’t dominate at the WJCs, he was playing a minimal role, and did put up one of the better performances I’ve seen from a non-1st-overall draft eligible forward for team Canada.
I think Hughes, Kakko, and Laf likely go ahead of him, not with 100% certainty, as it's not a massive enough gap I can't see a minority of teams seeing Fantilli as the best option. Laf's hype was pretty ridiculous even if I disagreed with how extreme it got at points. People thought Laf was a lock to be an impact player on his ELC and pretty much a lock to be #1 winger, which makes how he's looking 3 years into his NHL career quite shocking (as he was viewed as very pro-ready, with a high floor, but maybe not top 5 NHL player level upside). I do think Fantilli goes #1 in 2021 and 2022 though. Kakko had a pretty strong season in a men's league followed with a strong World Championship. Hughes was setting records at the USNTDP a program that has produced multiple elite players in recent years. He likely would go first in 2017 and would have had a pretty good shot in 2014,He probably goes 1st in drafts 2019-2022. Close with Hughes, but without foresight, most teams take the bigger C dominating college.
I think Fantilli would go ahead of Kakko. But, you bring up a good point about Lafreniere. I think Fantilli being a center definitely would’ve made it a debate. However, Lafreniere’s predraft resume was ridiculous. Two time CHL player of the year, WJC Gold, WJC MVP, and made QMJHL first all-star team his rookie year. I wasn’t following prospects in 2019-20 as much as I am now, but I was certain that Laf was going to put up 60 points his rookie year.I think Hughes, Kakko, and Laf likely go ahead of him, not with 100% certainty, as it's not a massive enough gap I can't see a minority of teams seeing Fantilli as the best option. i see this as well just off the descriptions that Bob Mckenzie gave in his draft rankings about how people see Fantilli as a 1b/2 cI think Hughes, Kakko, and Laf likely go ahead of him, not with 100% certainty, as it's not a massive enough gap I can't see a minority of teams seeing Fantilli as the best option. Agreed, if they were all in the same draft, with no other knowledge about how they’d pan out, I think Laf goes 1st. I don't feel Laf had that level of hype among NHL scouts. I often heard him described as a more physical Huberdeau leading into the draft. I also think Kakko didn't get the same hype either, he always felt like a throw in for his spot that year, I'd put him below Byfield.Agreed, if they were all in the same draft, with no other knowledge about how they’d pan out, I think Laf goes 1st. I think that’s pretty accurate in terms of mock draft projection. It’s interesting to think where Slaf and Nemec would actually go in that draft if there were more interesting options available.Agreed, if they were all in the same draft, with no other knowledge about how they’d pan out, I think Laf goes 1st. That's pretty f***ing funny if you really think Beniers would be selected 6th here. Should be ahead of just about everyone else you put before him.
