i'm sorry, I love Quick, but gonna be a contrarian here.

We are literally one year out from a complete 180 on opinions on our two goalies.

You go back one year, and it was people doing anything they could to get rid of Quick, he was done, etc.

I think you just have to see this year out while working on goaltending in both the system and on the big club. If Cal can't rebound, odds are you see a journeyman get a year or two while we work on a prospect similar to Wallstedt.
Yeah, Quick isn't leaving the Kings in free agency unless the Kings don't want him. There's no reason to extend him now. Unlikely he has a vezina type season that will require an overpay.

If hes interested, the Kings should just keep offering him 1 years deals until he retires.
Basically, I really doubt he goes elsewhere so why tie ourselves to anything longer than 1 year deals. Plus it keeps him forever in contract years, squeezing what little extra motivation that might give to someone like Quick.

Yeah, Quick is an average goalie -- except when it matters. His even strength save % in the playoffs is the same as Vasilevskiy at .931. Which team has the better defense in front of it? The Oil by the way were 3rd best in offense. Get some size on the blue line and he should be fine for a few more years. Petersen should be given a fresh start next year but so far he's failing.

Wouldn't mind signing Quick to a multi year deal with flat salary to avoid 35 year plus contract penalties, with an agreement Quick retires when his body stops playing at the NHL level. Just a guess, Quick is never going to want to stop playing.

I agree but I don't see a long term solution. You could sign and give Husso a shot and trade CP or JQ now. My suggestion is to set up a short and medium term solution and a long term backup for a reasonable cap hit.

The problem is Quick won't sit on the bench and be anyone's backup. He has that drive and determination to take over the #1 job at anytime. The problem is his body(age) won't allow him to do that.

If Cal is getting 5 million x 3 years he should be the #1 and get a back up for less than a million. We need the cap space to fill other holes.

Goalies are voodoo anyway, especially HOFers at the end.

I wouldn't be surprised if Quick just fell off the map next year. I'd be equally unsurprised if he put together 3 great years then suddenly retired. I'd be equally unsurprised if he played inconsistently until age 42. You just never know with these weirdos. I'm just personally certain that he's not going anywhere else Cup chasing or anything so there's no need to over commit to a contract.

Quick extenze now!

It is the opposite of a problem. Intrinsic motivation worked very well this year. Cal needs to earn it , as does everyone wearing the jersey, and JQ won't hand it off. This is the internal battle that helped propel the Kings and it could again next season. Extending JQ probably puts the biggest pressure of all on both JQ and CP. Great input from everybody, thanks. My like button was sentenced to 45 days, no early release, for giving my opinion on LA Kings insider during pride month.

Honestly I know some will see this as a weakness but my personal hypothesis is Cal was in his own head trying to justify his contract extension instead of just going out and instinctively playing hockey.

It's kind of a tough situation because he has to play this year either way--if you want to trade him he has to recoup some value. If he plays well you want to keep him anyway. But you can't trade him with that contract and his past year anyway. Rock and a hard place. He's here for this year.

IMO carrying 11 million in cap for goalies without a clear future #1 is a massive problem, even more so if Quick still plays great and we have 5 million on the bench as the backup for the next few years.

Plan A is to evaluate and trade one before the trade deadline while also acquiring a new backup.

I went off on LA Kings Insider. The shadowban censorship they put me through was twitteresquely grotesque and I let everyone, including Elon, know. Its killing american and the world. I am all good , hf is light years ahead of that incestuous baboon zoo echo chamber of censorship. Ok I am good I think no cussing and another north American has spoken up against the global charade. And learned the hf rules.
