Has an NMC, so it would have to be approved by him. Imagine he would want to go to a contender. Maybe something could be worked out with the Stars in exchange for a contract like suter. I am not saying it's possible or probable, I just would like to imagine the logistics and that there is a team out there who does want him and he would be open to moving to in order to get off a tanking team. He is a good D after all. I expect the token lol boat anchor comments asking for the 1OA. But reason will prevail etc. let's hear it

It would be far too expensive for Chicago to move him now.

In a few years the cap will be much higher and it will be easier to move him.

Also, maybe consider trying to pair him with a good PMD like he had in Columbus to try to maximize him and maybe it turns out you should just keep him.

Are we sure Benn and Seguin will get anywhere close to their deals?

Which is funny because I thought
Murray-Jones > Werenski-Jones. He does play a bit different though now though and hes not naturally aggressive. Maybe a future partner for Korchinski when he can handle the minutes

What about change of scenery trade for both players

Oel for Jones?
Jones is the better player by a bit, but oel costs less.

Just something that popped up in my head

It just doesn't make sense in my honest opinion to have him while we are rebuilding except to steady the ship and help bring in the young guns. His best years are in the next 3-4 years. If some team could use him, they likely have the same philosophy on the cap being more manageable as his contract matures

Still signed for 2 and 4 more years.
Woof(not to be judging here)

Hawks have nothing but time really with him unless Seth pushes for an exit. Would like to see him in 2-3 years time if he’s still here with Korchinski

Chicago is supposed to be making trades for bad contracts and not paying to dump them. Is it opposite day?

You are stuck with that albatross. Unless you want Nurse?
Ideally, wouldn't be paying for a dump. He is a significant player to add to a roster. We would be able to take back a contract like Suter with less years on it also

I guess if the hawks just want to get out of the jones deal quicker then maybe. My guess is that Seth and OEL both say no with their no movement clauses

Good luck with that. When drafted Jones was touted as generational talent. He dropped 2 spots having Druion and Barkov picked above him. He struggled in Nashville playing behind better D. Traded to the Bugs and never turned out moved again and has not really done much. His biggest issue he still makes the same mistakes that he did here in Nashville as a rookie.

This is not to say he is useless he’s a good player not a great player , and this contract is so bloated I’m not sure there would be any takers.

Maybe next off season Montreal would be, but I think Jones wants to play in the US only, or maybe even specific area, so that rules out Canadian teams

I was thinking Anaheim might be a good landing spot for Jones
Not with seven years left (not even looking at the 9.5 which is an entirely different argument against) with all the very good D about to hit within a year or three

What contender could afford him? Hawks aren't retaining on that length and no contender can take that cap hit. The Hawks will need to hit the floor and he goes nearly 10 mil towards that. He is basically stuck with Chicago and they are stuck with him for at least another 3-5 years.

Explore away, but unless it's wrapped around a healthy amount of retention, he's staying for a long time. The term is debilitating if discussing a player not living up to his contract already.

Even then, of course, there is the small matter of his ironclad NMC for the full length of the deal. Any interest Jones might have had in waiving (to avoid a painful rebuild, for example) probably died the moment Chicago won the Bedard lottery.

The only player in a similar situation is Nurse. One for one? I suspect Jones prefers living in Chicago with an up and coming franchise player on the way rather than moving to Edmonton where two superstars are nearing their UFA decisions. He's not waiving for Edmonton.

Chicago's timeline to return to competitiveness is now in flux. Drafting Bedard could make it, say, three instead of five years. I think Jones wants to see that up close.

I’d just keep him. He’s the best D we have and will insulate the young guys coming in over the next few years. Yeah, he’s overpaid, but that won’t be an issue for probably 3-5 years. If it becomes necessary to move him for cap reasons, it’ll be much easier to do with a few years left rather than 7.
