There is a physical presence under Brown's jersey. He can still hit, he can still shoot. Richards, too often over the last calendar last year+, looked like just an empty jersey skating around.

Because this is the NHL, not a fantasy league.

And there is more to a player's value than what you, me and anyone else (high hockey IQ or not) can read off a sheet of paper.

Dear God. Can we please have the NHL League Talk Board back, or has it been forever heisted by stat memorizers?

Hint: there is more to the game. Brown still brings it. Not to mention, defending HNL champs do not waive their captain. Some (any) context, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has a captain ever been waived while wearing the C?

I'd imagine you would be hard pressed to find a history of this ever happening. :help:

Not quite what you're asking, but Carbonneau was left unprotected in the 93 expansion draft by the habs. I'm sure Savard had side deals in place to ensure he wasn't picked though.

Brown is the C and I think he brings a lot to the team even if he's not putting up the points. He seems to kick it on during the playoffs

Remember in 2012 when all that trade talk was surrounding him and then he and the Kings played like gods for 2 months and won a cup. Then a WCF the next year and then another cup after that. As long as everything is working out, I don't see a reason to break up the main core. I never really saw Richards being a piece there for long

Brown hasn't been waived yet because there's still plenty of time to do that with the new deal he recently signed.

Brown pts since '11: 54, 29, 27, 19
Richards pts since '11: 44, 32, 41, 15

Both have large cap hits, with Brown's possibly even being worse. Richards also never played on the 1st line, so why does Brown have worse production than Richards? Richards was waived simply because he was a center?

How about watching the games. This isn't a really hard question to answer. Fitting user name...

Don't forget Brown's best attribute... drawing penalties. Does anyone draw more penalties than that guy?

He was also trucking people last night.

Every time I watch brown I wonder how he's even in the nhl.
Can't skate can't shoot.
They must really regret giving him the C. Worst in nhl.

Yes. I'm sure the Kings regret giving the captaincy to a guy whose been a major part of two Cup winning teams and helped bring the first Cup to LA.

Maybe some of you guys should actually watch Kings games, Brown has been one of our best forwards all season, just because he's not putting up points doesn't mean he's not an effective player.

There's 29 other GM's that would trade for Brown. If he hit the waiver wire the first team that has claiming rights would claim him. Right now he is a more effective player overall then Richards.

Congrats? When is the banner ceremony? And what exactly does your team have to do with anything that's been said in this thread?

And what does my opinion of Dustin Brown have to do with being 'mad?'

If the Kings are saddled with him, fine by me.

Love the **** talking. Yeah, your captain is so much better. We suck.

Does your C even have a cup, let alone two in three years?

Richards was a skill guy who would play the heart and soul role sometimes.

Brown is a heart and soul guy who plays with skill sometimes.

As the players age, some roles are more transferable into their later career, thus equating their effectiveness. There are thousands of skill guys whose career fizzled prematurely because they never had the drive and consistency. Brown, at his worst can at least resort to a style of game that helps his team. Maybe he IS overpaid at this point in his career, but he can still be an effective player. Kind of like how David Clarkson played for the first month of this season.

tldr: when Richards was in his prime, he was a ferocious hitter who put up good numbers and could elevate his game. Now he does little of either. Brown has always been a physical player who could put up points. He is at least still pretty gritty, and can still produce IMO.

One of the best postings i've ever seen. Will be quoting this forever. :handclap:
