Brown has been damn good for two+ months now. It's just the puck is not going in for him.

Brown has been a beast though.

Because Brown is the C and nobody, especially management, wants to admit there are at least three guys more deserving than that turd and what a low value contract it is going forward.

Well at least you're not bitter. Brown is a good captain. He's done so much for Los Angeles and everyone here loves him. Brown's negative reputation is more hype than reality.

Brown pts since '11: 54, 29, 27, 19
Richards pts since '11: 44, 32, 41, 15

Both have large cap hits, with Brown's possibly even being worse. Richards also never played on the 1st line, so why does Brown have worse production than Richards? Richards was waived simply because he was a center?

Brown is playing hard, and doing what's asked of him. His production is not there, but the coaching staff likes his game this season.

Brown was never about g+a=pts--he is the X factor that teams need. I only saw Richard play a few games this year and he struggled in his own zone

Because this is the NHL, not a fantasy league.

And there is more to a player's value than what you, me and anyone else (high hockey IQ or not) can read off a sheet of paper.

Dear God. Can we please have the NHL League Talk Board back, or has it been forever heisted by stat memorizers?

Hint: there is more to the game. Brown still brings it. Not to mention, defending HNL champs do not waive their captain. Some (any) context, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oops, someone drafted a King on their fantasy team!

This boards obsession with dustin brown is hilarious. We aren't going to waive our captain. His play doesn't match his production, it's only a matter of time before that catches up a bit, but even then, it's more about the physical play creating space and drawin penalties

Brownie has raised the Cup two out of the past three seasons and some people here can't live with that.

You guys are hilarious. :)

Actually, here's a funny part too: 54 is good, 29 came in a lockout year so that's dishonest (18 goals in 48 games, what a chump!), 27 came on the heels of a knee injury, 19 and the season isn't over yet but his play is as good as it was before (minus the production, which should come now that he's on the first rather than third line).

So he's had one 'bad' year and that was explainable by injury. Now his production is down, but his play is where it was before.

Concussions have slowed down his game and made him scared of big hits. Hopefully he can find a softer style of game in the AHL and still recover for a solid second half of his career. He just needs to adjust to a new style of play because his body can't handle his old way of playing.
Or retires

Because like it or not, nobody will wear 23 with the Kings again. Nuff said. In fact the numbers 2 and 3 together in any sort of way, if you get what I mean.

Brown contributes to more aspects of the game, even when not producing, unlike Richards, whom, isn't even a good 4C.

Being a GM is really easy when all you have to do is go to nhl.com.

For some reason they decide to make their jobs more complicated by watching the games and treating these players in the organization like they're human beings, and take into account the other contributions he makes for the organization.

Richards was a skill guy who would play the heart and soul role sometimes.

Brown is a heart and soul guy who plays with skill sometimes.

As the players age, some roles are more transferable into their later career, thus equating their effectiveness. There are thousands of skill guys whose career fizzled prematurely because they never had the drive and consistency. Brown, at his worst can at least resort to a style of game that helps his team. Maybe he IS overpaid at this point in his career, but he can still be an effective player. Kind of like how David Clarkson played for the first month of this season.

tldr: when Richards was in his prime, he was a ferocious hitter who put up good numbers and could elevate his game. Now he does little of either. Brown has always been a physical player who could put up points. He is at least still pretty gritty, and can still produce IMO.

Do you really need this explained?

Brown is playing better than Richards, even if his offensive production isn't great.

Brown is the captain. The captain that led the team to their only Cups in franchise history, most recently last season.

Brown has been on the team since before the 04-05 lockout and will crack the top-5 in games played for the Kings by the end of the season. 500 more games than Richards.

Forgetting for a moment that waiving him doesn't really make much sense, what sort of message would it send to the roster and the fans?
