gotta say I'm not impressed much! I think it's time to try Knies up with summer workout buddy Matthews! Move Bertuzzi down to Tavares' line see if he can do anything besides take stupid penalties! Maybe he's feeling too much pressure trying to play with Matthews and Marner!

He seems clumsy. Looks like he's trying hard, flailing away. His past says he gets the job done. M&M have set him up quite a few times. Time he buries a few.

He has the tools just needs time to build the chemistry. I will say though, he's pretty dumb as far as making careless or undisciplined plays. Might just have to accept that as the tradeoff for his skillset and added grit

the Prior
Bertuzzi 25/46 71pts
Matthews 61/49 110 pts
Marner 38/73 111 pts

I may be a bit hopeful, but I think once Marner gets off the schnied that line will really start cooking and prove to be one of, if not the best line in hockey.

I expected him to have more than 0 five on five points through 5 games so far but alas. Domi has been getting a lot of rightful criticism but even he’s managed to get points at five on five.

He will be fine, looks like he’s simply finding his place. This is a proven commodity, and it’s October. He will catch fire and ultimately I think he’s a great fit on the top line.

My expectations are 1) stop playing like dog shit and 2) stop taking so many stupid PIM's.

I predicted that this team would spend a lot of time in the sin bin and Bert is doing his best to make that prediction come true.

We’ve drawn as many as we’ve taken so far.

I like it. It's no slight to Bert but Knies is probably already the best LW on the team.

I hope Bert works out for you guys. He was a very productive player in Detroit when he wasn't injured which was often.

In the meantime this early in the season former Maple Leafs Justin Holl seem to be enjoying his time in Detroit. He just had 3 assists in the Redwings win over Calgary tonight where he was named 3rd star and leads the NHL after 5 games in the +/- category with a +8.

He's shown flashes of doing things well, paired with some less than good performances. I think he'll be fine with more time to build chemistry with the guys.

I have a good feeling about this guy. He is one of these players that rises to the occasion.

He only has 7 games in the playoffs, mostly due to being loyal to teams that just did not make it far, but in those 7 games the dude scored 10 points! That is a superstar pace, 5 goals and 5 assists in 7! Granted that is not a huge sample, but how many guys start off their playoff journals that hot? If anything, most take a while to adjust to the faster speed and competition. I think this says a lot about him and I don't think this is a coincidence. His game is actually more tailored for the playoffs than the radular season, he is a chippy, hardnosed player that does not seem to be scared to mix it up. The IQ is very high, and he has a nose for the puck, so far the luck has not gone his way, but if he continues to play the way he has I think the stats will start to show.

Also keep in mind that he is still new to the team to our organization, some guys take a little longer to adjust and be comfortable. He seems like the sort that needs to form those bonds and who will thrive as he gets to know his teammates. This is the sort of player that has your back and needs to feel like he is part of a unit in order to maximize his output. So, I feel that his production will only increase as he develops his sense of comfort and figures out how he can help this squad the most.

Everyone needs to find their niche and I think his lack of early production is just him trying to figure out his own role on a team that is loaded with talent and production.

I keep reading reports that he's playing injured? Why?? Just rest him until he's 100 percent and stick Robertson in the lineup. I don't get it. He's not producing and it's the beginning of the season. Why is he playing hurt?

I really think his style would mesh better with JT.
They seemed to have pretty good chemistry last game when he got moved down. Similar playing styles. I think they should give those two some more time together. Maybe even having Jarnkrok on the right side.

Knies-Matthews-88
Bertuzzi-JT-Marner
Domi-Holmberg-Jarnkrok
Gregor-Kampf-Reaves

Or I guess you can try Domi up top too.

Matthews-Marner connection hasn't done anything after the back to back hat tricks.

Marner makes JT much better IMO, plus JT-88 usually gets out-chanced/crushed defensively.

think Bert is the right fit with Matthews and Marner. It's hardly like AM34 and MM16 have been world beaters 5v5 either. I expect the points to start coming for Bert.

Some things just take time to develop. At the end of the day, Bert is the exact type of player we need on that line come May/June. We need to fully exhaust this combination before pulling the plug IMO. it's been 5 games. If it continues past the 10 game mark, then maybe you look to shake things up IMO

Exactly, but Keefe doesn't seem to have the patience to let linemates develop chemistry. I'm just not sure if it's more infuriating to watch as a fan or as one of his players.

Someone at MLSE badly needs to sit Sheldon down and insist he stop throwing the lines into a blender on a nightly basis. Come up with line combinations that make sense and give the players the time and space to work together until it works.

I tend to agree with you, but from what I read on here, most seem upset that he doesn't switch up lines after a bad shift.

Ya I can agree with that to some degree. But in all honesty, I'd much rather a coach like Sheldon who is not afraid to make adjustments in game or in between games vs. a guy like Babs who would not budge on anything despite the results. Remember when Babs absolutely refused to start his backup tendy in the 1st half of a B2B?? Instead, he would hang them out to dry on the 2nd half when everyone was tired? Our record on the 2nd half of the B2B was something ludicrous, like 0-8-1 or some shit and Babs would not budge. He had all the answers.

I can see how some may get frustrated with Sheldon's quick trigger finger, but in all honesty he has won us more games then lost us with some of his line juggling IMO. Especially the in game adjustments. If we don't look to have the jump, Sheldon always gets the blender going. It may not always work out, but it sure as hell is better then sitting on our asses and waiting for a spark to come.

Look no further then this past Saturday. Domi and Knies connected on the 3-2 and GTG after starting the game on separate lines. It was an in game adjustment that sparked the comeback. Not to mention, Sheldon took all but 0.5 seconds before he fired up Woller after Sammy let in the 3-1 TB goal.

Sheldon is far from a perfect coach. He makes questionable start/sits from time to time, and he also tends to over coach (ie. 7D + 11F, 5F PP1...etc). But at the end of the day, I really do think he has a good pulse on his guys, and I do think he can see the importance of giving Bert a healthy runway
