No, even if we left him in the AHL for 3 years he would be eligible. Its pro years, not NHL years.

Unless you mean we should have left him in Sweden, which I don't see why that would be better than the AHL.

What did he show in the SHL that warranted it? Would Lehkonen have developed as well if Habs brought him to AHL at 19 instead of waiting until he was a top end player? I'd understand if these guys were key players but they were bottom 6ers with low icetime in Sweden.

If Vegas dosnt take Plekanec, what would be the structure if MB buy him out!? 2/3 caphit spread on 3years!? So about 1.3M for the next 3 years!?

Its pretty common for teams to want guys to learn the NA game and be in their own system where they have more control over ice time/linemates/deployment/etc. Just because one thing works well for one player doesn't make it the only way to do things.

year 1 - 2.66
year 2 - 1.66

It really depends on how much cap space they can afford to waste. Everyone is trying to pawn off their undesirable contracts to LV. At some point these salaries add up. They could go with NHL ready talented prospects over proven veterans at some point if they start getting tight in cap space.

If I were McPhee, I'd definitely go Hudon over Plekanec.

Where the reasoning of having a better veteran available actually applies would be Nashville, where even though a young promising player like Aberg is available, you can't really afford to pass on a guy like Neal that should be in high demand at the deadline.

You can only retain up to 50% of a player's salary. Plekanec at maximum retention is still a 3M player. That can hurt his value for a contender looking to add the final piece while being near the cap.

Your argument is valid but LV has to pick the best avaiable players in each position and Plekanec is one of them.

It's 2/3 over twice the remaining time, so 2 million for next 2 years.

Thanks.. So it was a good move not to pay a steep price like a 1st round pick to save a 2M caphit for the next 2 years.. If he intends to buyhim out if not pick

Then why would Vegas trade him to the Habs?

Could have just drafted him instead of McCarron, but of course the man in charge would rather select 1st round disappointments.

You're complaining about something that hasn't and most definitely won't happen.....why?

How common is it to bring 19 year olds to AHL when they have never been good in the league prior?

If Emelin gets picked... I would target Alzner.

Edit: Well never mind that, I'd target Alzner regardless of who gets picked.

If Emelin is indeed the selection we absolutely need to acquire a pair of NHL calibre dmen.

Scandella/Brodin-Weber
Markov-Petry
Del Zotto-Benn
---
Davidson
Lernout
Juulsen

Not ideal but not horrible. I just hope we don't move Galchenyuk for either of Scandella/Brodin...make it happen with others or make sure a top 6 C is involved if it has to include Galchenyuk

With all the D reportedly being on the market and UFA, if MB got a little bit of imagination he should be able to get a top 4 without giving away Galchenyuk

The Wild just traded Tuch + possibly a pick so the Knights take Haula. What reason do they have to trade Brodin or Scandella now that their defense comes out of this unscathed and they've retained their top-2 centers (Koivu, Staal) and will have Eriksson-Ek slot into Haula's spot?

tbh those are just placeholders for the kind of player I expect Bergevin to acquire, and are the two names he's been linked to most.

However it's not completely unrealistic for Minnesota to deal a D for a winger, they've got plenty to spare and could use an upgrade on the wing.

just read the report that the Wild will still probably trade one... lol if we traded Chucky for Scandella and a small +...
