I think some people overrate the prospect and don't take into account that Vegas wants value.

It never made sense and people were way too upset about a guy that is 5th in the Habs LW depth chart.

Just because there is a report that indicates Hudon is not being pick and it's probably true, It doesn't mean Hudon was not in consideration of being taken by Vegas. It just means there is someone else they prefer.

Most people were saying one of Pleky, Emelin, Hudon, Davidson, DLR for a while now. Safe to say, Vegas can go any direction and take any guy from this list and we won't be terribly surprised.

I have my money on Pleky but I bet Vegas was hoping we would give them a pick for them to take him. Bergevin didn't budge and I like it.

Hudon's one-way contract was a nice hedge against Vegas picking him.

Radulov is a UFA -- why would Vegas start from square-one with contract negotiations that might not work out, when they could simply select one of the Habs' contracted player?

If that's true it's a pretty horrific scenario IMO, that leaves our D (until Markov is signed...) as:

35 years old Plekanec's value is close to 0... I'm not on board that charade. Some people will just throw anything out there.

I'm really, really hoping they take Plekanec. Even with our atrocious centre depth, having his money off the books will help sign some DMen and superior forwards, and he's a 3C at best and we have plenty of players suited for that role (Danault/Shaw/McCarron/Mitchell/JdLR).

You don't think that if it was the case we'd have more than 3 Quebecers on the team? I think Bergevin is wrong for plenty of things but that? You don't think that if he would have his job easy, he'd fill out his team with Quebecers so that he wouldn't have to hear every year we don't win....What if we'd have more Quebecers? Or...is Bergevin anti-QUebecer? Or whatever....And on top of that...he is just as close to infos as we blamed GAuthier and Gainey to be. Bergevin started his career here with that in mind...but he's further away than ever now.

Emelin will. OTOH, what if Plekanec is even worse offensively than last year? It's been trending down the last 2 years. Would playoff teams want a small, soft, purely defensive player for the playoffs...even as a rental? Maybe, but he wont go for what Hanzal did.

David Conte était un spectateur attentif, hier. L’ancien grand manitou du recrutement des Devils du New Jersey est maintenant conseiller aux opérations hockey pour la future équipe de Vegas.

On raconte que les Golden Knights cachent plutôt bien leurs intentions en vue du repêchage d’expansion. Conte n’est pas entré dans les détails, mais Hudon faisait visiblement partie des joueurs qu’il épiait.

« On sait très bien qui il est, a indiqué Conte, en entrevue avec La Presse. Quand un joueur connaît autant de succès, c’est normal qu’il reçoive de l’attention.

« De notre côté, il est essentiel d’amasser de l’information sur tous les joueurs, a-t-il rappelé. Pas seulement pour le repêchage d’expansion, mais aussi pour de futures transactions. »

If LV ends up not taking Hudon, they at least definitely had eyes on him.

Well, Plekanec cost $5M but his cap will be $6M while Emelin will cost $4.4M and his cap will be $4.1M. For an expansion team that matters.

It might still be Emelin for all i know.....but value wise, Plekanec is worth more than Emelin.

No it doesn't matter, we're talking about Vegas baby! If they can dish out 500 million as an expansion fee, they can ignore that 1M saving. Plekanec isn't worth more, he's older, slows down after ~30 games in the season and has a pretty bad track record in the playoffs. Add to this that whenever the TDL comes along there's always a good supply of younger 3rd/4th line centers that can be picked up for cheap. Pleks isn't getting traded to play top 6 with a yearly production of 28 points, that's silly.

I've always liked him, very solid player in his day. But those days are over so time to move on
