What's changed from last years D group?
They had another competent pairing in Zadorov/Cole that took pressure off Soucy/Myers and allowed the coaching staff to better manage the minutes Hughes wasn’t on the ice. This year they’ve trying to force some combination of Forbort/Desharnais/Juulsen/Brannstrom to work, and it isn’t.

The Canucks desperately need a #3LD that can carry a pairing, hopefully to partner with Willander, and bump Soucy/Myers onto the bottom pairing.

Makes sense. Those boring guys on D that get the job done are more valuable than most fans will admit. Habs went through D problems this year as well. Things changed after the Barron/Carrier flip and yeah, Carrier is another boring type but gets the job done. Our team D has been much better and it's also connected to bringing up Dobes. Primeau was just horrible this year.

One of Allvin’s biggest mistakes this offseason was allowing Cole to walk and thinking they could replace him with Forbort/Desharnais. Cole did slow down last year and was pretty terrible in the playoffs, but for 3/4 of the season he was a rock for this team and played a big leadership role as well. His ability to play both sides was also a huge plus. So far this season Cole again is playing a huge role for Utah and his presence on the Canucks’ blue line is sorely missed.

Habs made the same mistake with trading Kovacevic this past summer... thinking Barron can fill his role by learning on the job.

It should be quiet till closer to the trade deadline. Its unlikely that a deal is out there that makes them better this year. They're finally healthy now but if still not comfortably in a wild card spot or 3 seed then I can see trades happening with Miller and Boeser (unless he resigns), possibly Garland too

Kovacevic is another guy Vancouver should’ve been more aggressive on instead of overpaying a worse player in Desharnais.

I liked Kova.... Big boy that skates well and is very physical. I also liked J Merrill with his short time on the Habs. Boring types that only put up 10-20 pts but get the job done. Many Habs fans said they are easily replaceable which is false. Many teams are looking for it and it's hockey, the weakest parts can hold you back because it's a team game more than other sports.

I'm sure the Canucks make a move to add but when do they do it? Not sure

This is an extremely difficult decision because Miller is the heart of the team, while Pettersson is their 1C.

I say trade Miller because it's less complicated. I say to the Rangers for 1st, Braden Schneider and Alexis Lafreniere. I see Pettersson being such a good fit for the Canucks in the long-run. Also, Hughes can step up to not just be the soul but heard of the team. And I see Lafreniere being a good fit on a line with Pettersson and Boeser. I think the Rangers aren't a team to develop CHL players, I think if Lafreniere was to play for the Canucks he'd bounce back similar to how Kaapo Kakko is doing with the Kraken.
You can make a 10 min highlights reel of his "controller disconnect" moments. No player like that can be the heart of a team. Hughes is the hart of team and without him Miller would be 70 pts player.
