why did Kane remove that tweet is what i want to know, and why is WHELLER taking the role of Ladd, and calling out a player, which lets face it, that's exactly what he did. I dont recall Kane doing this ever, and he wouldn't via the media. Is this really the effect Wheeler wanted to have. Perhaps he wanted to be the center of attention for a change. I'm still put off by it....as Kane said, he could have shot him a text. This seems very calculated to me.

It happened at the Prudential Center where Wheeler was the only Jet participating in the league preseason availabilty photo/video shoot. Somebody must have asked a question about Kane.

really?

It kinda says the opposite to me...I'd say it's a less combative way of saying Kane has been a bit of an ass the past few years and it's time for him to step up.

Yep - that's what I read by that too. Rather than being a disruptive influence or perhaps an idle bystander, we need you to take more of a leadership role. I commend Wheels for having the guts to do that.

A step in the right direction might be for Kaner to show up prior to the very last minute he has to and skate around with the guys for a few days before TC opens... ;)

Its about time we hear something like this from players. I want them to try to ratchet up the level of expectations considering there isnt a lot of new blood on the team.

Wheeler has overall been our best player since the team came from Atlanta. I have no doubt Wheels will be on the all star team this year as well.

Its good he called out Kane like that. About time.

Yup I like it, he did it in a respectful manner I think that should motivate Kane even more. Not saying Kane needed more motivation.

Much ado about nothing , especially the 1290 boys this morning , Troy you should know better.

Wheeler just said it was a media scrum and he was asked multiple questions about the team , one being that most if not all other rival teams have improved this off season how would Winnipeg compete with that.

He said improvement could/would come from Kane who is ready to yadda yadda yadda .... ZERO issue here. NONE .

which is where i take issue with this whole thing, Wheels must be pissed about something else, a trade request perhaps:sarcasm:

I think it was just wanting him to take his game to the next level. You hear that from players a lot this time of year, most of the time it's about themselves.

Yikes, Ryan Johannsen tweets and jokes with Dubinsky about being a second line centre and I don't think anyone says boo about there being a feud between the two, but this somehow becomes enough of an issue to be all the rage on the radio, and requires a Free Press article?

The players need to accept the microscope here or our media have to back off a bit. Maybe TNSE can have a chat with them...

This all bodes well, as far as I am concerned. Wheels is showing real leadership, inviting Kane into the inner circle, where he needs to be in order to thrive. And where he will need to be a more mature player.
As I prognosticated last year, IF Ladd is traded, Wheeler is the next captain of this team.

I agree.

Wheeler says Kane unfairly picked on once again over lighthearted tweet

He said it was a compliment. He said Kane is capable of taking the Jets to the next level better than some of the additions made by other Central Div teams. Sounds pretty complimentary to me.

IF Ladd is traded, yes. I expect Ladd to be in Winnipeg for many more years. There really isn't another logical candidate IMO. Will probably wear an A this year.

Not disagreeing that the environments are different, more of a sad reflection on the media for me. And not just the locals, as there are also the score bloggers (at a minimum) trying to create something out of nothing.

still reads about the same afaic.

Kane's response even acknowledges the possible negative connotation of the quote. I mean even if it was just a joke it only makes sense if the original quote is interpreted as a bit of a "call out."

And once again I'm not sure how this is "another case of Kane being unfairly picked on..." Who is picking on Kane (other than possibly Wheeler depending on how you want to interpret the comment?)

In the followup wheeler was quite clear. He used the word "compliment". So if there was any ambiguity originally there is none now. It was about what he thinks Kane is capable of.

Both Wheeler and Kane have no issues with it , as mentioned it was complimenting and identifying who and where big improvement can and will come from .

This should never have veered off in this direction ,media and fans should have realized what this was.

Wheeler was asked a question about Kane.

Wheeler thinks that Kane needs to step up and become a leader. This is as much a criticism as a compliment as it directly implies he thinks Kane is capable of that.

That's the beginning and end of it. It's kind of annoying how everything that happens with Kane becomes an issue.

oh come on now. Look, It isn't a big deal...I never really thought it was. But to say "media and fans should have realized what this was" is just ludicrous. Its a comment that is a tad unusual and I don't see why anyone would be surprised media around here picked up on it - especially given the climate around Kane the past couple months (years :) ). The Jets are a big thing around here and the media is going to cover pretty much everything that comes up around the team...just the way it is.

They should have , well the media and fans that initially didn't should have imo .

It isn't unusual and it is exactly what it was . NOTHING to warrant this , nothing.

You're saying it isn't unusual for one prominent member of a pro sports team to state publicly "he needs to understand he isn't a young guy anymore and its time to step up and be a leader on the team" about another prominent member of the team?
