Another teaching moment for Bouch last night, unfortunately in a huge moment in playoff game. This time about complete level. He won't soon forget the embarrassment of that and how important it is to play hard in every single situation. I remember Jeff Petry had a moment like that against Chicago in an important regular season game way back when, and he got roasted. He came out of it pretty good, I'd say. Bouch will be fine.

I would love to trade Barrie for Larsson. It’s not going to happen but that type of move should be made. Islanders with mayfeild are ideal targets still.
Seems that NYI wants to move the opposite direction from us too. Barrie and Mayfield would be a solid swap (hopefully we wont have to retain any salary to get it done)

Yeah it would help both teams. I feel like they’d want us to give something cap wise though but even if we have to retain a bit I’d still do it. If you can get some cap savings moving Barrie that’s a bonus but mostly I just want his dollars re allotted to a different style of D man.

We could try to eat salary from a Clutterbuck of Martin to match salary if need be, not sure if the Islanders value those guys as the okayish 4th liners they are though. Lou might unironically think those guys are game breakers :biglaugh:

They have enough cap to take on Barrie's additional $3.05 million and re-sign Bellows and Dobson. Lou has been very good with the cap over there it seems.

Eh I would not consider it good cap management. One of the big reasons he has cap space is b/c he traded Devon Toews for 2 2nds so he could sign Pageau... It does however just so happen that they have enough to take on Barrie for a comparable price to Toews ;)

Hopefully, but it’s been his reputation since before he was drafted…
Yah, and they also said Mike Bossy could never play defence well enough to be an impact in the NHL....

We'll see. It's his first full year in the league and first playoffs, and now against arguably the best team in the league. And with a lot of extra unexpected responsibility due to injuries on an already thin dcorps. Not a big surprise he's going to make some glaring mistakes.

The main problem with Bouchard is that he doesnt get enough icetime and will make more than Nurse soon.

Not sure how the Bossy thing matters here. Just that the report on Bouchard at every level has been exactly what but him in the butt yesterday.
hopefully the message hits home hard enough that it’ll be something he works on. If he can, he’ll be a very good top pairing guy very soon.

Barrie is FAR from buyout material. In fact I'd say he'd been one of our best D these playoffs. Bouchard's emergence and our cap situation means moving Barrie will likely be the best course of action, but that will happen in a trade for a decent return.

The only reason why I can think Bouchard isn't on the 1st PP is to get him signed long-term at a good cap hit. If that is not the reason then our PP coaching is horrible as he does every single thing better than Barrie does and has a game breaking shot.

What do you guys think an 8 year extension to the Bouch this summer would look like? 1 year left on contract, but eligable to re-up this summer, if it were me I would be locking this guy up before he takes over PP1.

I think Nurse's contract will inevidently get Bouchard's contract higher. It is what it is, but Holland made a clear mistake there.

The Head coach should insist to put Bouchard on PP1 if that gives you the best chance to score ….

My point about Bossy is that he too carried a stigma forward from junior that he managed to overcome. He never was a Selke candidate or a guy that could punch his way out of trouble. But he was competent enough in defence to not hurt his team, and also head into the tough areas. Like Bossy's own issues, Bouch will likely always have some issues with his intensity, but if he can work on them to make it passable, it will be possible to live with the odd brainfart. Looks like we can both agree on that.

I'd guess that Bouchard's camp would want around 6 million for 8 years, Oilers camp probably counters around 5 million.

Love this comparison. Because I was just looking at some Bouchard's highlights and realized that's he's a pretty big dude. I'd really like to know if some of Duncan Keith's off-ice discipline rubs off on him in the offseason.

Is Bouchard going to add strength? If so, I don't think you see him losing that battle to Compher. I believe a stronger Evan Bouchard changes things. And I believe that his mobility is a more difficult thing to improve than his core strength just due to his body type.

People see him as a one dimensional offensive Dman and I think Jeff Petry is a better comparison for where his game can evolve to than just that primary PP point shot.
