We can get him cheaper than that
Yeah, no you can’t. Bouchard’s one of the top RD in the league and hasn’t even hit his prime yet.

Trade wise, you have nothing of interest that you'd part with that would help a team trying to win a cup more than Bouchard would, and offer sheet wise you wouldn't be able to pay out the ass like the Blues did.

I don't think I'm slick nor do I play like I'm hard
But I'm-a drive the lane like I was Evan Bouchard.

This is true. Salaries will rise. The problem I see here is how much does he deserve from that rising cap?

He's one of the better young guys on D but man, $11M AAV? When I see these situations, I look at how the player is surrounded with talent. He's got two of the best players in the world playing on his PP and I see bloated stats because of it. Bouchard deserves credit for working hard and earning that spot but I think $11M is too high (even with a rising cap).

I don't think he is as good as Dahlin. Without a rising cap, I'd say Bouchard is a $8M guy. With a rising cap, I'd say $9M-$10M range. $11M is too much IMO

The human pylon Nurse makes $9.250mn, Bouchard is getting well over 10 million.

Nurse's contract has no factor into what Bouchard will get. Everyone knows Nurse is overpaid and never improved from his good season he had to get that contract.

I can see Bouchard getting more than $10M but that's because of leverage. If he wants it, he can get it or force his way to UFA and that becomes more of a problem for the Oilers. I hope it works out for the Oilers and it's a fair deal...keeps the team competitive in the salary cap.

Bouchard does not put up those numbers on most other teams. Like I said, he deserves some credit for earning his way but his point totals are bloated due to the offensive firepower the Oilers have.

Yes it does. If your teammate who isn't as good as you makes a certain amount its very easy to use their salary as a starting point.

You can try but most Agents and GM's would take a different approach. I personally would not be using Nurse as a comparable. Maybe Dahlin is a better one.

Do you need glasses

If it's a 7 year contract at let's say at $10 million, that equal to $14 million per year in compensation. So the intent is only 5 years?

Maybe next try a little critical thinking before throwing attitude

Compensation is based on the AAV of the offer sheet. I'm not sure where you're getting 5 years or 14m in compensation.

If the Canadians offer $12x7 next year, 84m total, the compensation will only be 1, 1, 2, 3.

Any offersheet more than 5 years the total contract is dividedby 5, therefore $10 million over 7 years is a total of $70 million decided by 5 not 7, so the the compensation would be based on $14 million for compensation. All this means the compensation would be 4 X 1st round picks

@Rowlet

This exchange made me chuckle... so classic HF. He even gave you a chance!

Nurse will set the floor for whatever number he asks for/gets.

I agree with you that his numbers are inflated, but unfortunately for the Oilers, they're going to be in a bind regardless.

That's not really how it works. If he brings up Nurse, the team says "we're offering you more than Nurse, let's look at the comparables league wide". Bouchard doesn't get an extra million or two because a teammate has an awful contract.

His stats have set the floor above Nurse's AAV anyway.

Go ahead Edmonton and over spend on Bouchard...Soon you'll be known as Maple Leafs West.
I can’t believe i am about to defend the Edmonton Oilers here, but they did make it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals with their core, while the leafs are struggling to get past the first round.

And that’s not coming from an Oilers fan that’s for sure.

There's no team comparable to the Leafs in how they embarrass themselves and fail at succeeding. Such as getting shutdown and losing to their own zamboni driver.

It will play a huge factor, imagine seeing your shitty lazy co-worker make as much as you...that's not going to fly with Bouchard's agent.

Edmonton won more playoff rounds last season than Toronto has won in all the seasons combined since the 2002-2003 season. Put some respect on the Oilers name.

Irrelevant, "Cup or Bust".

1 team wins the Cup....everyone else is a bust.

1 team wins, 31 teams lose. Thats just the reality of the situation.

That said, I’d rather be in Edmonton’s situation than pretty much anyone else’s. That’s gotta sting you, eh?

I'm sorry but saying he's one of the top RHD in the league is a farce.

Sure he had a lot of points last year but until than he never had more than 40 points, he's a mess defensively and is a product of the pp and the fact he's never not with McDavid.

I think he has a hell of a bomb from the point but anyone who says most of his assists aren't more of a result of who he plays with are kidding themselves, same with anyone who denies that Ekholm deserves an award for completely carries that pairing.

Nurse was paid 9.5 million based on one good season in which like Bouchard there was many factors that led to it and when those factors were taken away, he now has arguably the worst contract in the NHL.

Like I get that comparing contracts signed in different years isn't ideal at all especially with the landscape of the cap since COVID but in a world where Quinn makes around 8, or Cale makes 9+ Bouchard getting anything close too Makar money is hilarious.

I watched a ton of oiler games and Bouchard isnt a dman despite being a ppg that tilts the ice, he just doesn't and it's the guys that do tilt the ice and change the flow and momentum that deserve massive contracts.

Put it this way, you put Quinn, Cale, Fox, Josi etc with pretty much anyone they still not only tilt the ice but they are make their partner better.

You put Bouchard with Nurse or kulak etc his game, especially in his own zone and his numbers would crater and if you put him out with good to average forwards and an average PP his point totals would drop shit ton.

All the guys I mentioned are big reasons why their teams pp do well, just like whatever forward group they play with get a massive boost playing with those guy's.

Bottom line he's a product of his situation and is about to get way overpaid and as a nucks fan I'm all for it

It's very hard to quantify how much of his play is due to playing with who he plays with. I agree that it's worth noticing but it's also true that Bouchard has grown a ton. He doesn't look like a player who is being carried. He is a play driver now. I'd even say that calling him an offensive Dman isn't that accurate anymore, as he is quick and smart in all three zones. I bet someone out there would give him 11 million. He is a top pairing D and a damn good one

Draisatl not taking a home town discount and making the GM's job very difficult
Upcoming cap issues with Bouch and McD signing huge contracts
GM with a very shady past and fans questioning the teams ethics
Players leaving to other teams or being poached due to cap issues
Odds of a finalist team making the big show consecutively being low
Sabres fleecing Oilers on Savoie

Oilers took a step down from last year.

That's what stings?

Read everything you typed but pretend you actually know what you’re talking about this time  where did Matthews or MacKinnong take discounts? The true top guys never do.

The rest of this is just a rotting bin of trash shoved into a wood chipper

Your obsession with the Oilers is admirable - your post history is a large majority Oilers related. Did a 90's or early 00's Oiler steal your GF or something (based on the 2007 join date)?

Does anyone who actually goes to games think like that?

These guys are entertainment, nothing more. A winning season and playoff run are great fun but of course witness a Cup win would be 100x better.
