what exactly is there that I dont know? so if it took 2 years to become a steal then I was right saying most thought he got overpaid at 8.5m when he first signed it.
I made no mention of your personal knowledge, but all those that thought Draisaitl was overpaid when his contract was signed were all wrong as Draisaitl far exceeded his salary

doesnt change the fact when he first signed it he was overpaid, just like MacKinnon who signed for his actual worth but like 1 year later he was incredibly underpaid.

Spending will set you free!
It can only go up forever!!
UNLIMITED and EXPONENTIAL growth!!!
You would be crazy stupid not to buy buy buy!!!!!

Hope really does spring eternal doesn't it. Pro sports aren't recession proof. This league has had two lockouts just in the last 20 years. In that time there's also been two and maybe even technically three "once in a lifetime" economic crises.

Put your faith in Gary and the BoG I guess.

The current NHL is way below where it should be. COVID artificially lowered it, the cap should be in the mid-90s right now, it's several million short still.

The NHL said it may take until 2026 to pay off the debt from COVID, it's already been paid off 2 years ahead of that, that suggests to me revenue is driving faster than expected.

Go to any game, the prices of everything is way up from even just 5 years ago, let alone 10 years ago. The prices of merchandise is also way up in the same time frame, I remember being able to buy a jersey and team cap for much less than it is now.

We're overdue several years of 4-7 million yearly cap raises. Yes, even as much as 7. We had 6 in some years in the past, did we just think that was never, ever going to happen again?

There's the sheer factor of inflation too, a cap rise of like 4 million in 2014 would be over 5 million today. Inflation itself drives cap increases.

If anything it's the people that thought COVID was going to last forever that are out of sync. Unless there's another wundervirus from China, the cap is likely going to go on at least a 4-5 year run of substantial increases as it's been held down artificially for several years now and even then it will probably be well behind where it should be had COVID not happened.

Bouchard had 10 goals, 47 points at even strength.
Makar had 13 goals, 47 points at even strength
Hughes had 12 goals, 54 points at even strength

Again, Bouchard is NOT a PP specialist.
Yup. Dahlin set the bar at 11.5
All three of these guys (imo) should eclipse that. If the Oilers can get Bouchard for less than Dahlin’s number, they should jump in that.

Gotta say, there is no team HFBoards likes talking about more than the oilers
Leafs?

He just put up 30 points in the playoffs as a dman while looking great defensively for the most part
.
Idk if his ask is outrageous but if he puts up his ploff stats the first little bit you should just give him the 11.

If he starts cold eh maybe wait the year out.

This is true. Salaries will rise. The problem I see here is how much does he deserve from that rising cap?

He's one of the better young guys on D but man, $11M AAV? When I see these situations, I look at how the player is surrounded with talent. He's got two of the best players in the world playing on his PP and I see bloated stats because of it. Bouchard deserves credit for working hard and earning that spot but I think $11M is too high (even with a rising cap).

I don't think he is as good as Dahlin. Without a rising cap, I'd say Bouchard is a $8M guy. With a rising cap, I'd say $9M-$10M range. $11M is too much IMO
The difference being Bouchard is a RD, he gets 1.5-2 mil more just cause of that.Ask a gm how hard it is to get a top 4 RD, it’s the most valuable position, even more then a center.

We've reached the point where Oiler fans just pretend that Darnell doesn't exist anymore apparently.

Gotta get rid of Nurse, should have been done this summer.

Who cares about Bouchard, pay him whatever he wants, it's Nurse who's the never ending boat anchor.

No way they can do it without getting rid of Nurse?

Can send him to Souray Island..... enjoy a rich retirement/press box view from your TV set. If you want to get rid of the on the ice liability.

or we can trade you Darnell and you can continue to play...

Oilers are in a tough spot with Bouchard in the sense that he might not actually be worth that much, but what's the alternative? Do they have a ready replacement for Bouchard if they decide to move on from him? And will that replacement fit the Oilers like Bouchard does?

It might be one of those situations where on the Oilers Bouchard's worth $11 million, even though on another NHL team he's more like a $9 million player.
Not that I’m comparing the two players, but this is word for word the conversation that went down when they signed Nurse.

The problem there was they signed him for 9.2 likely thinking he was about an 8M player and he ended up closer to a 4-5M player

is he better thsn seider? absurd ask
I think its the fact Bouchard will be signing one year later and is 2 years away from UFA status v 4 years away.

So its a tad different scenario.

Seider also took 7 years v Bouchard 8. I was shocked Moritz Seider signed at a lower number but each player decides that.

Are you serious with this? Teams can't just make up something that serious because they feel like it

Even the teams that bend the rules need some basis to do so

You can sit any player on the roster? There's guys in the press box every single game of the year? Nothing says you have to play the player. You can literally tell him to stay home and get paid no problem.

Like who do you think healthy scratches are? Nothing says you have to play the player. There's guys on the team getting paid that maybe play 20 games a year?

Do people not know how contract negotiations work?

Bouchard asks for 11M.
Oilers offer 13M.
Bouchard takes 10.5M to keep the team competitive.
Fans salivate over what a team player he is.

11 is not an outrageous ask given what he brings. Like many others here, I think he will end up getting around 10, which is fair for both sides. Oilers are going to be competitive for years to come, even if they have a lot of cap wrapped up in 3 players,

Nuge and Hyman help offset Nurse, and then you still need to offset Campbell's dead cap.

Are Nuge and Hyman going to continue their play into their mid 30s?

Is Evan Bouchard still good after Ekholm?

You'd hope they try to upgrade on the other D over this time too.

I agree with pretty much everything you said though... it looks tight at best.
Ekholm will most likely sign another 2 or 3 year deal when his expires. Dude looks like he is loving life in edmomton. Although given his age he will or should start to decline over the next year or so

Feels like a lot of hate/jealousy towards the Oilers in this thread. If Bouchard was playing on an American team everyone would happy to pay him 10.

I think people also forget that hes been a monster in the playoffs.
In this thread? The entire HF board other then the oilers board is anti oiler.

Cant wait to see the meltdown when amd if they do win lord stanley. Gonna be epic 😎

The new Leafs cap management with most of it in 3 players
...or maybe nothing to do with the Leafs and it is about Edmonton.

Draisatl didn't take much of a discount, McDavid will get more than that and if the Bouchard number is this high it is going to be a problem for Edmonton paying Draisatl, McDavid, Bouchard and Nurse close to $50M a year.
