Maybe he just kept dragging it out and finally the Casino said that's it. The bank not saying anything .. well not sure. The casino would take the draft to their bank and their bank would tell them the bad news after trying to process it. That probably happened within a few days of them being issued. It may be up to the Casino to pursue it.

So the casino allowed the debt to float? That seems highly unlikely unless Melnyk said "I have a new arena coming!"... I very much like where this is going!

Well if he’s a high roller then it’s a relationship issue. You don’t want to piss off the guy dropping millions in your casino until it becomes absolutely necessary.

Yes, the most likely explanation is usually the best one.

I just like imagining Melnyk holding off casino hitmen by telling them he'll have a new arena soon, only to overplay his hand with his business partners, the municipality and the crown corp and have nothing left to fall on.

It really feels like the vultures are circling.

This is the thing, casinos want to be sure you can pay before they advance you this kind of credit limit.

Which is why I believe he was a known whale to them, so they weren't really concerned about this amount of money initially.

edit: As an aside, it makes me really curious what Eugene plays. Mohegan does have a big horse betting setup.

Maybe Melnyk is rich enough that this is just a million dollar annoyance ... that he can fix inside an hour and it all goes away. He likely can still pull that off.
If he has not burned his connections at the Casino he can probably even get a retraction from the local paper.

I have no problem whatsoever conceding that Melnyk is absolutely rich enough to make a million dollar casino issue go away.

But.. he allegedly hasn't for some totally understandable reason I'm sure. :sarcasm: So...:popcorn: for all of us now.

The only thing I can think of is whatever bank the draft is from went bankrupt or the draft's were fraudulent. If it was fraudulent I would have suspected the bank to be filing a lawsuit as well? This is straight up weird.

Save on salary, save on signing bonuses, lose trades because of money, don't pay gambling debts. I have never been more optimistic about FYOUS.

I honestly think he just doesn’t give a crap. He probably has an existing relationship with this casino and they pissed him off so he found a way to stop payment. I’m willing to bet that he probably expected this law suit and doesn’t care. It’s how he argues with other adults.

We have to remember that Eugene melnyk is a god and there is nothing that he can’t take care of with a snap of his fingers. No one can stop him and he will rule forever. He is a legend.

But then, why wait if he has the money? Wouldn't it make more sense to just pay the debt off ASAP?

Just like when he "bought" the team I guess for a song and dance and began piling debt on rather than paying the team off quickly and setting up a plan to make real money in the future, the guys decisions just dont make sense. Thank the lord none of these lawsuits can be compensated by way of Senators draft picks!

If drafts are altered or damaged, that would be another reason a bank wouldn't honour them.

Or... if Melnyk claimed they were stolen?

Unsure on the damaged but makes sense. Altered = fraudulent to me, so agree.

Lol if he used them then said to the bank they had been stolen. I can imagine it like the credit card fraud prevention calls -
"A draft for 200 thousand was used at a casino at 11.57pm, press 1 if this was you.
A draft for 200 thousand was used at a casino at 11.59pm, press 1 if this was you."
