LOL. The balls on this guy to let a near-million dollars in gambling debts ride for over two years, to the point where they have to chase him in court to get him to pay his bills.

It definitely lends more credit to all the rumours of other unpaid bills he's left in his wake.

I can't wait for people to try and argue that this is normal.

Isn't there always two sides to a story? Maybe there is more to this. Or EM is really just a bad dude.

Good grief. Must be nice to drop a million gambling and see your net worth only drop from $1.2 Billion to $1.199 Billion. I wonder what on earth he was gambling on. The ponies im guessing? Perhaps less of a gamble than trying to develop a female aphrodisiac. A billionaire with gambling issues, must be a casino owners wet dream.

Still i only see one source for this on the internet so far, so will wait to see that its not just a clever advertising ploy by the casino to get Ottawan's to visit Connecticut. But it's so believable isnt it?

If he issued bank drafts from TD bank and the bank did not honor their own bank drafts, is this not a serious act of fraud? I think this gets a lot more serious than just bouncing a cheque from a bank account.

Can't sign star players
Bare bones operation
Arena deal falls thru ensuing law suits
Cut the salary below the cap floor
Executives leave
Gambling debts close to $1,000,000.00 where the bank would not honor the drafts.

The suit lists an unpaid draft Melnyk issued on March 17, 2017, and four more drafts issued March 19, 2017. Four of the drafts were for $200,000 apiece and the last was for $100,000. Three of the drafts were issued from 11:07 to 11:57 p.m. March 19.

So, did he have bank put a stop payment on the draft prior to giving it to the casino, did he forge it, did he fail to endorse it? Why would the bank not honour a draft...

It was reported by "the Day" . founded 1881. It is a Connecticut paper.
In October 2010, The New England Newspaper & Press Association recognized The Day as its Newspaper of the Year for its weekday edition and Newspaper of the Year for its Sunday edition in the 25,000 to 40,000 circulation category.

Others have said they were waiting for this to come out so.. more smoke

I hope this goes to court quickly and that Melnyk is forced to pay up $900k + interest. And when he’s finally exposed for the fraud that he is and can’t even get $1M cash together, the whole house of cards will come crumbling down and his creditors can take over the team!!

I see this whole thing as some terrific news. Everything around Melnyk is falling apart! I don’t think he’ll survive the season as owner.
