Karlsson the player? A fair bit.

Karlsson the contract? There would need to be some serious retention and/or sweeteners involved.

Yeah with EK it’s so hard to put value on him. He’s so good for 4 games and then not good for 1 and then repeat and then he gets hurt. When he’s healthy though he’s a number 1 D and would be putting up PPG numbers if the Sharks could keep up with him. I think Burns would be more available than EK.
Yeah, I was just trying to trade for improvement of Habs. Need to look elsewhere.

Petry I am sure we can give away. Hoffman I think we have to keep for time being. But Petry's 6 million bring us good asset in UFA.

Murray+Zaistev+Del Zotto for Karlsson after his bonus is paid for the next season

This is the sort of deal that would make sense, at least for the two clubs if not Karlsson. You've got a cap team and a salary team.

From Ottawa's perspective:
After his bonus is paid, he has 41.5m owed to him over 5 years, that's just $8m x 5, basically like a Trouba-sized deal. Ottawa can work with that and unload 24.25 in salary for worthless players. So one way to look at that is that Ottawa has to pay $16m extra or $3m a year over the next 5 years to have Karlsson, not a great player but an actual useful player you can use in your top 4 and run a PP with.

From San Jose's perspective:
The team is bad and Karlsson doesn't add nearly enough, maybe barely half his $11.5m cap hit. Ottawa is sending a lot of cap back but it is all off the books in two years, in 2024, as opposed to 2027. Clearing out $11.5m in cap 3 years earlier is a huge benefit. I know they're "not rebuilding" but they should jump at the chance to re-set in 2024 instead of waiting until 2027.

For those who suggest Montreal lets not forget a certain individual already on the team

Unless they really want to blow the team :naughty:

And he’d cost way more than you’d be willing to spend at 50%. We are talking one of the biggest packages of futures ever moved in the NHL.

Karlsson would fetch a decent return at 50 percent. But one of the biggest returns in the history of the league?

I doubt he'd even return as much as rhe sharks gave up to get him.

Yeah it's somewhere in the middle. People think that the sharks position in the standing mean that all of their players are worthless. It's not realistic

Perfect then we aren’t moving him. He is a 1D to us. It’s literally as simple as that.

Who would you rather have for another 5 or 6 years at 8 or 9 million?

Karlsson or nurse?
Neither. I think they're both overrated and overpaid.

If you put a gun to my head I'd take Nurse. He's younger and doesn't have the injury history Karlsson has.

I dont think either guy is the guy you build your blueline around anymore. But I think both could work quite well as auxiliary pieces in the top 4.

Id probably take Karlsson. But im biased.

You do not have the correct perspective as it relates to San Jose. Karlsson is roughly in the 8-9 range on value currently. Clearing out only means something if the team is rebuilding when they’ve given no indication that they are. I know they’re not rebuilding but they should should already clue you in that your perspective here is inaccurate.

the question is not so much will they move him but will another team take him? his cap hit is 11.5 for 5 more years
Yeah, when trading allowed again Habs give you Hoffman and Armia for Karlsson? We can trade Petry in separate deal not involving you. I reorganized the trade offer. Lol

What about Buffalo? Dahlin/Karlsson pair could be cool. Buffalo gets him close to Ottawa (assuming that's still home?). Something around Karlsson for Skinner. Sabres should have ample cap space for the next few years.

Sharks say no. They aren’t giving up a chance at Bedard to move EK and that package isn’t worth that first alone.
I don't think the Sharks would be a player for Bedard.

After this trade, I'm looking for around top 10-15 ish 1st.
