I only say this as a Sens fan who was ready to quit watching hockey after we traded Karlsson to the Sharks for a bag of six pucks......

What in the actual f***?

If someone asked me 3 years ago on this day what was more likely - that either Jesus rose from the grave two thousand and something years ago, or that the Senators somehow got TWO number one centers from the Karlsson trade we all shat on, and that he would become one of the least wanted players in the league shortly after that (his contract/cap hit) - I was 100% betting on Jesus hitting his second wind and getting up this weekend.....

Even though Karlsson has faded and is still an impact player for any team (contracts disregarded), what amplifies his albatross of a contract is the fact that even at his best/prime - there are several young stars on the blueline that put a major damper on his skillset, like Makar, Fox and Hughes to name a few.

He doesnt get over 8m per year if we had the same talent in the NHL in 2018 as we do now - he was basically a unicorn at that time. And today hes just one of many and, playing with a broken down body that keeps him from skating like he needs to be to play at an 11.5m/per cap hit.

Karlsson in the 9.0 to 9.5 range would still garner a pretty good return

Who’s going to take on Karlsson at $11 million? Nobody, that’s who. If you honestly think you’re getting value for this player, you know very little about Hockey and the salery cap.
We’re not asking anyone to take Karlsson. Only way we’re moving him is if he asks out.

With that contract I’d say it’s a negative. For what he brings it’s just not cost affective

We will. You know very little about asset protection and sports.
I’ve asked before but what’s a realistic trade you think could happen? Who has the cap dumps to take on $11M declining asset AND give value for Karlsson?

Hopefully you’ll answer this time.

And I answered before. You can go back and look.
No you didn’t, I just went through your post history and it’s nowhere to be seen.
So what team would be willing to add him and what for? What’s a realistic trade in your opinion?

Skinner + Okposo for Karlsson + Labanc

SJ gets a solid top 6 and can keep guys like Balcers and Bonino away from it because they really shouldn't be up that far in the lineup.

BUF gets a permanent partner and great role model for Dahlin plus Labanc (strong defensive game if memory serves?). Buffalo also has Quinn on the way who is a natural goal scorer and can fill that void.

Meh. Skinner does nothing for us if we are moving EK. If we are moving him we are for sure rebuilding and need futures coming back.

Looks like you’re right. I had it all typed out for WSH and DAL I think it was and then these boards that are held together with toothpaste and prayers refreshed randomly and I lost it. Basically what I remember from it was Faksa+Khudobin+futures going back. Probably more likely for Burns but it’s more likely we move Burns anyways. There likely isn’t a realistic trade as I’ve said multiple times because he’s worth more to the Sharks than to anyone else but you continue to act like every single player will get moved regardless of value.

Labanc has a very weak defensive game

Any Dallas fans want to chime in on this? Sure they get rid of some bad contracts for 2-3 years, but then are stuck with an absolute anchor for three more years after

It’s just not realistic.

Just because you believe it as such doesn’t mean it actually is. Teams find ways to make it work when they have the chance to get a talented player.

I’m still waiting for anyone who can come up with a trade that works. Please show one single fan of another team that would accept trading actual value for a clearly declining asset, who’s always injured, who’s paid $11.6M for FIVE more years. Especially without you guys retaining anything.

There’s been plenty of threads not started by Sharks fans that demonstrate that. Don’t ask others that sort of question when you can easily find out yourself. Even when that happens, you would just find an excuse to dismiss it.

I can’t find a SINGLE thread of fans agreeing to actual value being given to SJ for an non retained Karlsson. None.
