Would think he and Jensen would be a pretty good match on the 2nd pair. Wonder if they’re leaning towards resigning Jensen and rolling with that?

And this suggests to me that they may not trade Jensen or TVR but move to resign both of them.
Main boards tripping out over Boston’s first. Who cares about that late pick.

The other aspect to this is: does a slower skater fit alongside Carlson? If not and you're putting Sandin with Jensen (ideally I suppose) the role of the pairing changes. It becomes less hard minute. Do they have the horses to pick up the slack elsewhere? They could keep Sandin insulated in more of a third pair 5v5 role ala Gus earlier in the season and Schmidt years ago. But it negates a fair bit of the value.
Plenty else to shake out, of course, esp. on the blueline. In a vacuum it's a fine bit of a business I guess. But the overall fit, the overall mix remains so muddled that it's hard to know what to make of what they're in the process of doing.

Was kind of bummed to see Rasmus traded but it makes sense. We have 3LDs signed for next year (Rielly, Mccabe, Giordano), and we didn't have space for him in the lineup on the consistent basis.
That being said I wish Rasmus all the best and hope he flourishes in Washington.
As for Rasmus, he is a two-way defender who isn't afraid to use the body. Despite his small stature he will often throw a big hit. He's got great Iq and sees the ice well in the offensive zone. In his own end, he is great in transition as he can make an effective first pass and has good gap control on forwards. He will need improve his straight-line speed moving forward and adding a few pounds will help but I'm confident he will be at least a #4 moving forward for you.
I think this is a good move from you guys despite the main board's comments.

Injuries certainly held back Chychrun a bit but over the last 3 years Sandin compares extremely favorably to Chychrun in terms of even strength impact. A dream trade by MacLellan, and now they just need to get a coach that will actually trust him in top pairing minutes ASAP.
that's not right.
Schmidt was selected by the Knights in the expansion draft. Shattenkirk was not protected by the Caps.

Im not sure i love this. Sandin has potential for sure. But Gus played by well and Sandin wont be score more than him and that first, even if low, could have been used more productively i feel like.
But im just a random guy. We'll see. Good young prospect with low cap hit and high ceiling is not bad.

Gustafsson is a career journey man who can't play defence. I'm glad the Caps are moving on.

It’s a great opportunity to get younger without necessarily getting worse. Not without risk, but Sandin and Fever between them could make half of a great top-4 for years to come if all goes right.
If they can get Jensen and TVR signed for reasonable amounts, the D-corps isn’t looking too bad for next year. Something like:

Meh skater and small but whatever I am just happy to see BMac is realizing its best he trade our firsts. As long as he is feisty I don't care either way anymore. Those advanced stats will take a hit its only a matter of how much. Seems a big leap to pencil him in as a top pair.
Other teams - get Mahura, Timmins, Forsling, Montour, Siegenthaler for free or virtually free
Our staff - trade 1st for similar/lower caliber player instead of playing guys we drafted and developed or checking the waiver wire
I guess Sandin scores well on the "Tage Thompson is trash not worth a 5th round pick" fancy stats metric so there's that.

I would much rhater, and would epxect, a TVR on the third pairing. No reason to play him on his off side. Gotta hope Sandin - Carlson can pair well together, then you run Fehervary - Jensen, and my preferred 3rd line of AA - TVR. Gives you a good compliment of young players with veterans up and down your defense.

Kudos to Gus on his season, but he is old and most likely wasn’t returning. Reminds me Tom Kurvers. A PP specialist only except excellent offensive skills, however poor defensively. We’re getting a young guy with huge upside and not afraid of opponents. Caps have enough Dmen In the pipeline.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Iorio next year (though maybe not full time). But the reality is guys like Johansen and Alexeyev have yet to work out, and the skill sets of Siegenthaler and Fever likely meant they wouldn’t both have found a place in the lineup long term (both fairly defence first-types rather than strong puck movers).

Maybe his power play coach in Toronto will eventually come along with him this offseason?
Those guys should be able to get NHL time now to prove worth. Johansen and AA that is.
