Exactly the type of facilitator of offense Washington should have targeted.

Basically a younger, slightly less skilled Gus. In part it's cap motivated given the $1.4M AAV next season and what seems like tight circumstances for WSH. But the BOS first was their main prime expendable asset for adding a piece. This is a piece that likely adds more in the longer-term rather than a significant immediate boost. There's some strong cap value to be had next season at least but hard to say if this is the right style of player at this stage.

He does good things 5v5. Perhaps Fehervary can step into Orlov's role. It's the later that I'd most question if that's the plan.

Twabby seems happy with this trade. So I'm happy too.
you guys should be.

22 yr old with a tonne of potential. Not a great skater but can absolutely lay out dudes. He reverse hit blake wheeler a year ago and it was a thing of beauty.

First pass is fantastic. He can get into a bit of trouble with pinching and then not having the wheels to get back but guys he is 22 lol. Easily a top-4 guy and maybe with some luck a low end 2 (this is unlikely but still).

Left side is locked down for Leafs with Reilly, McCabe, and Giordano now and Sandin certainly wasn't going to gain any value being a healthy scratch. Brodie is also there but think he plays more right side.

honestly don't even know if Gustafsson will play much. Unless McCabe plays right side...

Either way, they did well to recoup value for Sandin. They could have also just played him but I guess that's too risky when you absolutely need to win a playoff series this year

Honestly, I'll be interested to see how his footspeed plays out here. It's been a consistent complaint, but the one thing I really think our coaching staff/development groups have done has been working on footspeed with players.

I think back to Wilson. He was so slow when he first came up, but now he's one of our fastest and best skaters. Not to say Sandin will suddenly become a burner like Jensen, but I could easily see that improving here.

Gonna give Sandin a chance to show what he can bring but not a fan of his overall game. Too many limitations it seems he has to work through. Absolutely don't see how he's worth a 1st for the caps at this stage. Play Alexeyev the rest of the year and if he doesn't establish himself find a better value proposition at the draft or in FA. Reminds me of the leafs snaking a 3rd from Vancouver for Travis Dermott last year. Stings a little that we traded a better D in Siegs for a 3rd not too long ago
