i think thast fair, i think they lost scott to buffalo and a lack of picks and lack of scouting talent got exposed. im not sure if they have fixed anything, but they need to start drafting better is the bottom line
Yes agree but how much is coaching? I edited my above comment on that topic. They haven’t developed guys enough and Lockhart/Sproule are prime examples of this. Both were smaller forwards but instantly found success elsewhere. Not to mention that we are not getting commitments like we were in 2015 with McDavid. I mean the scouts can identify all they want but if the kid says “nope” to you, what are you supposed to do? Add in a limited amount of higher round picks and your odds of hitting decrease. It’s all a cycle and all interconnected. Bad coaching, bad development, poor performance on the ice, less kids commit here. Hit reset.

the 1st round guys are the ones who say no, to be fair the only reason you guys got drysdale was because he said no to the teams before you to go to erie. i dont think reporting is a factor, there are plenty of kids who would go to erie and if anything, erie has an advantage pulling pittsburgh and us kids that ontario teams dont have.

im not sure i could call messier and mcdonald upgrades thou, they have no production and dont really do much? alfano was a smart pick up as he should be a point a game top 6 guy with size. spence is spence,

i know they group and i think they are all very focused on finding another debrincat for years, they got enamorud with that type of playe,r problem is he is a unicorn and only happens once. small guys are fine but you need them to be more skilled then the bigger guys by a fair margin, not sure the edwards/artichuk/ross types were ever all that skilled.

In their defense, how often are they playing (Messier and McDonald)? Right now the common theme seems to be:

Line 1, line 2, line 3...pause...line 1, line 4, line 2, line 1, line 2, line 3.

No I don't think Messier or McDonald are a top 6 per say and may never be, but I believe they are better bottom 6 forwards than Edwards or Artichuk.

I expect year 2 we will see bigger growth and they surpass our smaller guys minus maybe Saganiuk.

Reports are coming out that Molnar got into a scuffle with a pickup game overseas and hurt the dude pretty badly. If rumors are true, that could be the end of that and him maybe reporting.

Nice story. Was unaware of Alfano’s connection to the Baird family. Instantly became a Sam fan after reading this

That’s just not true…and I have personally had conversations with Brown about this in the past, about them getting kids to commit. And just because 20 kids are taken in the first round, doesn’t mean there aren’t 30-40 kids considered or talked to for those early picks… also just because Drysdale says yes, doesn’t mean all will (See Brandt Clarke).

For as much “advantage” as you think Erie has with Pittsburgh kids, those kids also have more college exposure and conversely, Canadian kids/parents might be against coming to the US. Erie has more disadvantages than advantages imo. But they should use their advantages more with US kids, if possible

they get more us kids then 80 percent of the organizations out there to be fair. owen sound is one of the top teams in the west this year and have no way to get american kids there.

you have your info regarding draft kids, i can tell you that kids drafted in the 2/3rd round may say no, but after that, kids have zero leverage. and really, thats where your scouting team needs to make their money. if youre only relying on top 40 picks to make it, you never will have success.

i cant speak to dave brwon most think hes very good, but the scouting needs a purge, look at how many small forwards were taken in early ronuds that are failing. how many dylan edwrds types do a team need?
On behalf of season ticket holders who are the majority of what keeps them in business, we walk a full house clean up. Everyone from Dave Brown to the coaching staff. Nothing because of what Adams did in recent losses, but we need fresh ideas. We are so stuck in 2017, so we haven’t developed or adapted to the skill we currently have. Most at Tuesday’s game were season ticket holders and many shouted “we need a new coach”. Now I’m not fully jumping on the trend yet, however, everyone is tired of mediocre hockey and want competitive hockey again.

Bottom line, Dave Brown needs to go. He’s friends with Jim Waters, but DB is ruining Waters investment.

2-0 at the end of the 1st. Will they rise to the occasion or will they blow a flat tire?

Time will tell.

They’ve blown a 2 goal lead in 3 of their last 4. They are 3-9 in their last 12. It’s frustrating that they go up and then don’t score the rest of the game. No adjustments from Adams, our powerplay is awful. Its ridiculous that I have to repeat myself every game

They blew the lead, but compared to Tuesday’s poor performance they looked more like a team.

It wasn’t a perfect game, but they controlled most of the play. Frustrating as it is, they could’ve sat on their hands and felt sorry for ourselves. We were more disciplined and took almost 40 shots. Now tomorrow will be the bigger test for how they respond 24 hours later.

Every time I watch Erie play, they always give the Spits a good fight and I always wonder how Erie isn't higher in the standings.

Crap coaching, usually below average goaltending, and a lack of an elite forward. That trio pretty much sinks ya

Kingston #55 plows himself into the boards and it’s immediately whistled dead. Terrance gets plowed at the goal line and pinned yesterday at the end of the game, no call.
Same refs.

Make it make sense.

This team can't help itself and implodes due to dumb mistakes way too frequently as has been talked about before on here.

This team plays behind more than they play even strength. It’s frustrating but that’s been discussed plenty of times here.

And as I type, we take another penalty.

Lack of discipline...

Wheels coming off again. Curious as to how badly we've been outscored in the 2nd and 3rd period in the last say, 12 - 14 games.

After watching last night's performance, and looking back over the season as a whole, I think that it is difficult to conclude that there is any hope whatsoever for this season. Train wreck, tire fire, dumpster fire, etc., are all reasonable descriptions of what we are seeing.

This is not just a bad stretch of games. The team is becoming more and more undisciplined and dysfunctional in the extreme. There is something going on within this team that is not good, and it is getting worse. I have little inside information, but it is hard to believe that what we are seeing on the ice is not reflective of what is going on internally.

There are rumors that Molnar is dissatisfied with his ice time with Nitra and that he will report after the World Juniors. I certainly hope that happens, but would he want to report to the Otters given their current state?

I personally feel that the 2022-23 season is not salvageable, at least in terms of making the playoffs and making a decent showing there. However, they cannot let this disaster unfold without doing anything, and they cannot wait until the end of the season to begin to right the ship. If 2023-24 is to be something better than what we presently have, the they need to start now,

First, Adams needs to be dismissed immediately. The reasons for this are obvious, and have been discussed on this board at length. No need to repeat them here. Even if the replacement is only "interim", it would send the right message, i.e., that things must change.

Second, Brown needs to be dismissed as soon as possible. Again, the reasons for this are obvious, and becoming more apparent game by game. Frankly, I would also do this immediately if I had anyone available who could manage this job. He and Adams bear the ultimate responsibility for what we are seeing on the ice.

Third, I would trade Kyrou immediately. I know this would be controversial, and that one could argue that his trade value would be maximized at the trade deadline (although there have already been some "blockbuster" trades in the OHL this year). However, my reasons for making this suggestion go beyond getting maximum trade value.

In my judgment, Kyrou is hurting this team very badly. He is without a doubt the most talented player on the team, and he can be fun to watch at times. However, he has become very undisciplined. At first, I thought he was simply trying to do too much, but there is a line between trying to do too much and being selfish. Unfortunately, I think he has crossed over that line by what is now a fairly wide margin.

At times, I have had difficulty in determining whether he is playing forward or defense. He is all over the ice, frequently out of position, and hangs on to the puck far too long. The result is that he sometimes scores highlight reel goals, but most of the time his teammates are standing around watching, and he frequently coughs up the puck when he tries to stick handle through two or three opponents because he is unwilling to dish the puck off. Last night was only the latest example. Kingston's first two goals resulted directly from his turning the puck over in situations where he could have gotten rid of the puck had he wanted to do so. He then added to this by taking a needless penalty which led to Kingston's fourth goal, and which put the game out of reach completely.

I cannot help but think that when your best player is doing these sorts of things, it has a very bad effect on his teammates. Your best player should make the players around him better. Unfortunately, I think the opposite has occurred. Kyrou is ultimately responsible for his play, but a good coach would not have let it get this far.

You might call this addition by subtraction, or simply a situation where both the player and the team would benefit from a change of scenery. In any event, I think this might be best for both the player and the team.

I believe there is enough talent on this team, even without Kyrou, to be a respectable OHL team if they play as a team in a very consciously disciplined manner. They might not go far in the playoffs, but at least they would be interesting to watch and something to build on for 2023-24. I think this process needs to begin now, though, rather than waiting until the summer.

Word on the street is if Dave Brown doesn’t get this team in the playoffs, he’s gone. That coming from season ticket holder chatter.

Kyrou is another Lodnia. He’s talented, sure, but he does so much to negatively affect this team that his skill means nothing. He’s been a nuisance all year and it’s time to unload him.

Sova has really stepped it up and could take on the role Kyrou has. A change needs to happen.

Here is the problem with point 1 you make..

Does DB trade everything away to limp in just to save his butt? If so, then we are worse off over the next couple years, AGAIN!

Kyrou is, and always has been, reckless and careless. I think that is the main reason he is so hard to get a read on. He is talented, for sure, but the good is overshadowed mainly in part by his awful decision making and ego. It is like he got drafted and thinks this league is beneath him. He takes shifts that are 3+ minutes long often times ignoring the bench when they are calling him off.

This team deserves better, but unless we really clean house I'm not sure we ever see an Erie team achieve such. Management from top down just doesn't have "it" but Waters needs to start to recognize this.

Jim Waters can simply tell Dave he isn’t allowed to make more trades or “buy” at the deadline. He’s already added Gilmartin, Downey - with limited assets. No more trades, Brownie. This is the team you wanted, live with it.

I hope that chatter is accurate but it might be too little too late, he should have been fired last offseason
