Sova is running out of gas.

Kyrou has been benched for the first period.
Curious as to why Kyrou was benched.

Also, scoring and points have been spread out throughout a lot of players which is very encouraging to me. The team isn't reliant on a single person but are playing for each other.

On the broadcast someone mentioned it was because of an altercation with the coaches?

My guess is he missed curfew or was late to practice or the bus.

Once they are able to mesh together, we will have good results. Elite talent wins games, but I’d argue if there’s good chemistry anything could be possible. Like you mentioned, they’re playing for each other and buying into the “enough is enough” campaign this season.

No one likes a puck snob which we’ve had a good handful of those the past few years. We don’t need toxic energy.

Keep it moving today and play a full 60.

Elite talent wins championships… chemistry and good talent can get you through a regular season in any sport but there is a reason certain teams/players keep winning across every league and every level

That said, look across the league. There doesn’t seem to be a single team with many elite guys. I’m assuming that could change around trade deadline but maybe this is just that type of year where there really isn’t an unbeatable opponent. Ottawa has by far the best record but nobody on their team really stands out as that unstoppable. The leading scorer Voit is a good player but not a pure goal scorer either. Lockhart is 3rd in scoring (still funny that he’s developing elsewhere but never here) but we all know from his Erie days that despite the raw talent, he’s not elite.

Since the pandemic, this is kind of the new OHL? Maybe? Idk the fan attendance is down everywhere, kids have more options elsewhere, etc. Maybe it will recover but it might not. Anyways with all this being said, maybe Erie can compete a bit more this year than most years with the type of team they have. I really would love to see Molnar show up and see what he can do. The team shouldn’t have an issue with more talent helping them compete and it could really be the type of addition that gives them a shot at a 4 seed. This seems like crazy talk given where we were 3-4 weeks ago but it’s more about the landscape of the league right now. It’s wide open.

Agree with the above but I also think the duration of extra time ( Covid time ) w Lockhart to train , develope and mature helped on its own .. just wasn’t a great fit here - We never saw what we had hoped for ..but I def think coaching combined w other factors contributed .. and by rights your numbers should generally go up w age and league experience anyways .. need to move on from Lockhart talk

Look at what a few years did for Dane Fox- marginally average numbers then literally exploded in his last year for the scoring title and was signed

I predict the recent whatever it is (7-2) win streak -will help push our attendance numbers up and here in a few months after the HS football playoffs which we know is big here ... Perhaps some other addition will help spark the team as well .. the fans are about ready to jump at just about anything due to the past 5 year slump ..

Pass the popcorn - this could be a little more like it for Erie fans 👍

Well this can’t be surprising but certainly a long time coming

Article that pertains interview with Nitra GM. Here are the relevant questions/answers about Molnar that are roughly translated

Question - Fans are constantly deciding whether the talented Ondrej Molnár will stay in your team, or whether he will go to the Canadian junior team. What can you say about that?

Answer - Ondrej Molnár has a valid contract and only we can decide whether he will go somewhere. And it will be like that. If he goes somewhere, it will be because we evaluate that he is not helping us or himself. We do not doubt his immense talent. But he has to work on his mental attitude and not think that we will keep him here by force. He has to earn his place, then he will play more.

Question - However, sometimes its deployment sounds strange. For example, during your team's 5:1 win on the ice of Liptovský Mikuláš, he scored a goal and an assist, and in the next match against Nový Zámky, he was only the thirteenth striker.

Answer - Hockey is not only about goals and passes. When Ondrej earns his place, he will play more. He is a young player who does not yet have the consistency of his performances. But first of all, he must realize that hockey is a collective sport and it's not just about productivity.

Based on these answers, it don’t look promising about Molnar and seems they might be holding him hostage a bit on his contract? I don’t pretend to know all the details about player contracts over in Slovakia but this sounds messy at best

They put Edwards in his place. Potentially to let him get some spark for the 4th line?

Spence and Cohen out...

And we are probably playing the worst period I've seen all season...

If it could go wrong it is. I guess the good news is we are down 3-1 going into the 2nd with 2 goals on 3 shots against Lalonde. I hope it can only go up from here. North Bay is buzzing like crazy.

3rd NB goal wasn’t on Nolan. Morton and Kyrou collided at center ice. Can’t let that happen, big defensive break down.

Not sure we could have done much different. Cohen and Spence out really hurt but that isn't meant to take anything away from NB. They played pretty well. Too many mistakes on our behalf and a good team will capitalize.

Regroup for the next game and good to see Sam get a goal in his first game back.

Good for Alfano to get back on the ice and net one in his return. Curious to know why Cohen was scratched.

Props to North Bay for their game plan. Glad they’re in the East because they’re a big team. Lalonde looked defeated tonight each time he was scored on. Back to the drawing board and a split next weekend would be ideal.

Cameron Morton has been an excellent captain of this team. He’s not afraid to give big hits, defend his teammates, and open his mouth when he needs to say something. He’ll drop the gloves to get the team hyped. I haven’t commented much about his leadership, but now that we are a little over a month into the season, I felt it was necessary to mention.

I can almost guarantee that there is a buyout fee in his contract. This is a very common thing in most European team sports. I'm willing to bet that his chances of coming to Erie are directly related to how willing the team is to paying his buyout fee.

Which makes sense and I figured as much. Erie has limited funds, in part because they stunk for 5 years and it’s not like they got funds like other OHL teams for the pandemic so COVID didn’t help. We will see what happens but looking less likely the longer it goes

they could place him on loan for the year and then keep his nhl rights. rogle (i think it was them?) did that with the soo and sandin.

they would control his rights and where he plays until he signs an nhl contract.

Erie probabky drafted Molnar with the same expectations they had with Slafkovsky last year.

They’re hoping after the NHL draft, the player signs a contract with his NHL team (Young EU players almost always have an NHL out clause) is then sent down to Erie to develop post draft - similar to Tomas Hamara in Kitchener.

These drafts aren’t always expecting the kid to come over right after - calculated risks are taken all the time. Do you take a less talented player who is guaranteed to report, or a 16/17 year old kid that you’re hoping reports after being drafted into the NHL?

This is always the debate in Erie and on this forum. However, Erie has struck out consistently with imports the last 4-5 years and it’s becoming a trend to where you have to think they just don’t know what they are doing and have poor relationships with some of these foreign programs. You would think their approach would change - especially with a top 5 pick when they desperately need top talent. I get that it’s a hard process and don’t downplay that but I also get the impression they strike out because they are clueless and not because they are expecting it / taking known risks. For example, after the Slafkovsky pick - their management basically said “we know he has other opportunities but we want him to also have an opportunity here if he ever wants to explore that.” This isn’t word for word but that was the basic message. They weren’t expecting him to report but it was a 2nd round pick and you just take your shot there. No complaints. However, the message with Molnar after the draft was more like “we can’t wait for him to arrive, excited to have him.” Again not word for word but the message on that was way stronger, and clearly a different tone. They also used a 5th overall pick on him, not a 2nd rounder… so, I think they expected him here right away and just completely botched it , either because of poor communication or a stupid reach when they had other options, which wouldn’t be the first time (see Cajka for example).

Can confirm Owain Johnson has a soft cast on his left arm.

Time table is 3-4 weeks if everything goes to plan.

Erie really needs to take advantage of this weekends schedule. Owen Sound is playing tonight, tomorrow, and then both of our weekend tilts. Owen Sound is a tough building to play in. Smaller rink, harder to get over the boards, really have to adapt to the arena. It could be expected that OS will be tired.

Erie still has the 3 goalies: Lalonde, Nicholls, and Downey in town. To our advantage, it’ll be easy to have a rested goalie. I’d suspect they’d play Lalonde one day and Downey the next day. I could also be very wrong. Bottom line is they need to split for it to be a successful weekend. Getting 4 pts would be best, but likely given the history in OS we split the weekend.
