That's debatable and certainly not to the extent Faber was the undisputed #1 D in Minny and wasn't sheltered.

Hutson has the most points but Hab fans know how import Guhle and Matheson have been to the team so I wouldn't equate the 2.
I would put Hutson above Guhle this year. He is #58 in the NHL for defensive point shares at 5.8. Guhle is 89th. Guhle was playing on the wrong side a lot of the season and has only recently returned to his natural side. He wasn't the same all season.
The team situation with the black Hawks last year was crap and voters don't really care all that much for +/- and Bedard had the narrative last season.
We were picked to finish the same place as that Chicago team and were the same place after 1.5 months of the year.
Yes Hutson has helped but it has been a huge group effort.

Someone brought up Hutson on the PP this season and I went back and looked at Laines' return so I'll post the teams production form that date then go back to the 15th an do it again.
That was also when Hutson was finally put on PP1 so that is why it appears that way as Huston is one of the main reasons for the complete change in our PP.

Laine is at 10 PP goals this season. That is alread good for his third highest Powerplay goals of any season. He has six seasons below that number and two above (15 and 20). A lot of the credit for his Powerplay explosion is directly attributable to Hutson and Suzuki. Those three are what make it so dominant and one of them is a rookie D. He is having by far the biggest benefit of any one player this year for our team. I was always expecting Hutson to be good, he has just crushed even my high expectations.

Montreal's addition of Laine was also calculated in all the pre-season predictions. Everyone picked Montreal to finish last or second last in the conference.
Celebrini has been by far the most productive Shark since that date and it's not even really close.
While getting out produced by Hutson as a forward. Celebrini is great. I watched him numerous times as one of Hutson's teammates as well as in the NHL. Hutson is on pace to beat Bedard's rookie total as a D. He is currently having a monster year offensively.

If you would have told me that Hutson would be top 10 in NHL D scoring and ahead of all rookies in points by 5 points at this point in the season I would have probably laughed and I was on of the few screaming about how good this kid was several years ago. Go search my posts about Hutson from a few years ago. I knew he would be elite. I would have laughed at anyone saying it would have happened this fast. I haven't seen anyone on Montreal like this in several decades.

You watched the game and know how horrible he played and I'm made zero mention of the Nylander goal and yes Hutson is playing with better linemates on the ice than Celebrini or heck any rookie and we don't know how voters factor that in but it's still a fact that even hab fans would agree upon right?
The Habs is a bigger franchise and receives a lot more noise and attention than the Sharks. The team has been playing hard and is having just enough success to keep everyone's confidence and drive up.

I think if Hutson has the numbers he will likely win the Calder, and you're right it won't necessarily be because he's a more valuable player than Celebrini in a vacuum. That's life though. Bill Gates isn't the only man who worked on Windows.

Yes that's true but Saturday was also on the big stage and might leave some impressions on voters, we will find out more next time some voter polls come out I guess.

Maybe I guess we will find out.

"Deep diving" in stats...

PPG difference between Celebrini and Hutson:

Nov 30th
0.36

Dec 31st
0.26

Today
0.03

Hutson is well on his way of winning his 2nd rookie of the month. Well on his way of beating several D rookie records and milestones. As of now, he's the frontrunner.
