How's he helped the PK this year?

Not to mention Hutson is one of the worst D on the habs in terms of play-driving or rather chance/quality chance differential. He creates the most but gives up the most. Basically what everyone expected.

I'd actually wouldn't be surprised if Celebrini was close to that cherry picked time frame production wise.

Put another way in his 4 year peak Celebrini could very well have that type of production.

That would be ignorance on your part. Countries were considering sanctioning Russia to the point of restricting entry for Russian citizens and it was an issue that very year for obvious reasons. Russia had just invaded a sovereign country and started a war that could have, and has now, seen the deaths of tens of thousands of people and hundreds of thousands of causalities. Russian sports competitors were banned and remain banned on some world stages. Russia itself could have decided to restrict its players in response to sanctions.

Just because you weren't paying attention or already forgot doesn't mean it didn't happen. I don't think the future of Russian players in the NHL is even to be taken for granted now.

The picture for your profile leads me to believe you are Sharks fan, which happens to be the team I think had the abosolute least to lose by taking Michkov. Just imagine a powerplay of :

Michkov - Celebrini - Eklund
(Hagens/Martone/Misa) - Dickinson

I'm sure Smith will be good, he does have solid potential to be star one day. That said, it is tough to imagine the above lineup and not think, "damnnnnn"

The Sharks at the time had one of the most to lose. Celebrini was not a consideration, obviously no one counted on getting him. If he's part of your thinking then you need to throw that line of thinking out. They were crashing hard to the bottom of the league with terrible contract troubles and a very very bleak outlook.

They needed a player that was most guaranteed to play and make an impact in the NHL and could not risk Michkov not working out for whatever reason. They had already lost out on Stutzle so they could not gamble like that again.

Maybe that was rhetoric on extreme portions of the internet. I did not see any of that talk in reasonable places.

You still think russian players have any danger to not playing in the NHL even now? Goodness, ok, yeah I think you're just in a different information bubble.

A guy who played the majority of the year with a 2nd unit powerplay featuring Armia, Gallagher, Newhook, and Anderson should have produced more? It's a miracle he produced at all lmao

I think that Hutson's potential is >> Faber
He ain't physical, obviously, but he's able to steal the puck and he's able to battle a bit too in the corners
And obviously, on the offensive side of thing, he blows up Faber out of the goddamn water too

Not to mention Michkov’s dad died tragically in a mysterious manner prior to the draft - during the timeframe when Russian Oligarchs were randomly falling out of windows or down stairs to their deaths. In retrospect seemingly unrelated, but that likely crept into the minds of some when making drafting decisions.

Just because it happened doesn't make it right.

To punish innocent hard working athletes for the actions of their politicians is asinine. The whole guilt by association thing is even less relevant considering the only "association" per se is their country of birth.

I mean what a thing to tell a kid. Hey I know you've trained your ass off to get to the NHL and have no involvement in a war or politics, but because the leader of your nation did you're disqualified.

The acceptance of prejudice occurring is wild considering it's 2024. And so many Americans and Canadians like to pride themselves on being "progressive" yet they are demonizing people for where they were born. I can't understand how one can rationalize that.

Precluding Russia from this upcoming nations tournament makes the tournament invalid and punishes players like Vasy, Sorokin, Kucherov, Panarin, Kaprizov and many others for nothing.
