Engvall & Kerfoot - UFA's

Hyman also set an example for the squad, he works as hard as anyone in the NHL shift in and shift out. He is a playoff type of guy based on his compete level. Dubas chose 2 of the softest invisible guys in the NHL over HYman who played thru an ACL tear because he is one of those guys who doesnt want to let anyone down etc. Hyman borderline deserved to wear the "C" on this team based all around competing so hard.

The hustle is great and all but do you think maybe having an injured winger winning 30% of his faceoffs on the PK played a role in Boston burying us on the PP despite losing against us as ES?

The guy probably takes more hits than anyone in the league playing fetch on the forecheck, how long into his mid 30s does his body hold up playing like that? If he has to tone down his dog on a bone playstyle just to avoid becoming a Muzzin, is the rest of his game worth 5.5?

I don't know who Johansson is as a goalie for COL, but I watched Kerfoot wiff one of the easiest goal scoring opportunities I've ever seen in the NHL. Johansson was deep in his net, hugging the post, never saw the puck come out from behind the net landing squarely on Kerfoot's stick, Kerfoot seemed to have 3/4 of an open net to shoot on, and he tries to raise it high for some reason. The result: Kerfoot hit the cross bar. I still don't know how he missed that.

BTW - Kerfoot is good for 1 or 2 dumb penalties per game. I'll never understand why he tries hooking/tripping as his contribution to forchecking. He is such a f***ing knucklehead.

Hyman was awful for the Leafs in the playoffs and didn't break out until last year with Edm.

Kerfoot is no Hyman but his compete level is there every night and he battles his ass off and takes a beating.

I don't think either will be bavk next year but I doubt either are gone this year

You're probably right. I think Engvall/Kerfoot are own rentals at this point. They'll likely use the Muzzin money to round out their roster for the playoffs.

I would rather get something for them than let them walk for free. If we do trade for O Reilly and Knies signs I have no problem getting picks for them. Our prospect pool needs a boost.

I think we actually miss Engvall's defensive play when he's out of the lineup. His transition game is also underrated here. Still has more to offer offensively and needs to find the grit in his game he showed in the second half last season.

Kerfoot on the other hand should get launched into the sun.

Past the halfway point of the season, maybe this is just what he is?? Perhaps by chance he's saving himself for the playoffs?

Kerfoot is done and he knows it. Keefe just got the memo too. This is fan and player abuse.

Kerfoot is so bad I’m coming out of retirement
 
Kerfoots comparable is Kadri from what I've been told around here.

Hopefully the Leafs can fit that salary cap in.
