I think Kerfoot in particular is useful as a jack of all trades type heading into the playoffs. If an injury happens he can help plug holes better than most.

I'd be fine trying to replace Engvall with someone by the tdl if something came up

Kerfoot is useful but he's making 3.5M on the cap, you use that and our LTIR money (I think that's around 2M) we are starting to talk about a good chunk of cash

I really want a 2way 3C to help out the bottom 6 in a big way

A lot has been written about two these players on these boards and while I've been somewhat ok with their play in previous years I feel like their playing at a level or two below their normal standard at the quarter point in the season.

While not traditional point producers, at this time they have the following middling stats:

Engvall - GP-21, G-2, A-3, P-5
Kerfoot - GP-22, G-1, A-6, P-7

This is their UFA year, and they are both playing for their next contract which unfortunately for them isn't looking promising at the moment. Kerfoot currently earns 3,500,000 and Engvall currently earns 2,250,000 which is a combined 5.75 cap hit to the team. If their play continues along the current level, I can see them getting a drop in their next contract unless a team is desperate and over pays.

Personally, after this year, I think it's time the Leafs look to replace these players. Whether that is via internal options, a trade, or the free agent market.

I'm curious what other Leaf fans think. Will these players be resigned this offseason or will we be looking elsewhere?
Engvall sucks. He is a give away machine. Let him walk and trade Kerfoot for a 4th round pick.

Engvall is either straight trash or simply does not care.

When you have guys on this roster making 800k, busting their balls, playing over 20 minutes a night, there is no excuse left for this guy. I'd trade him for a a bag if pucks at this point.

We have such an amazing cap structure due to our core. There's a good 20 mil of cap space we can shed and still be cup contenders.

I don't know how only a small minority of us can see how easy it is for the Leafs to win the cup this season pending management gets off their ass and stops over rating their depth and prospects.

It's a small minority because only like 2-5 people see it. My first sentence alone will piss off 90%, then my last sentence will piss off another 8% remaining.

We even told them Matt Murray will be money and nailed that too, but they still don't trust us.

I'm not enamored with either of them, but they both bring reasonable production and play special teams for their cap hits. With how top heavy the team is, we've basically eliminated the middle-six type forward on our team, having only the big superstars and the 1m replaceable bottom sixers. Kerfoot and Engvall are replaceable players and there's nothing wrong with moving on from them, but I don't actually like the idea of drawing from our depth even further. Basically, if we're getting rid of them, they need to be replaced by depth players who will play similar roles.

I still can't get over the Tavares thread. People wanting to throw away our cheat code 1-2 setup so they can bring in god knows what.

If people need to defend the core guys I got your back 100%. I can only sit back and laugh watching people waste their time vehemently trying to save anyone or anything else.

Kerfoot and Engvall cap hits are not needed. Clear it up and bring in non vanilla. No more jack of all trades, we need specialists. If you suck at D you should be able to score, if you can't score (consistently relative to your place on the depth chart) you should be lights out in our own zone and a menace physically etc. Or simply just trade for a Horvat and call it a day.

That's a pretty big "except". 10 minutes left in a game 6 closeout game and he took the stupidest penalty in history. It's not even hyperbole to surmise we win that series if it wasn't for him.

Don’t forget about his disastrous drop pass to Palat. I certainly will never forget that. Margin of error is so small in the playoffs, especially against top teams, we cannot afford to have role players making epic mistakes.

I'd try to trade Kerfoot for Conor Murphy or at the deadline for whatever is the best draft pick offered. He's a non-factor player all year and for $3.5m you expect a 50 point pace production like last year, not this 25 point pace 😳 he's putting up this season

Shoot Engvall into the moon and don't look back.

I can atleast give it to kerfoot for his hustle, he's trying out their and he TAKES A HIT TO MAKE A PLAY.

ENGVAL on the other hand is one of the most softest invisible player I've witness in a Leafs uniform. With potential to be more... How often does he lose board battles while being 6'4 200+lbs.. he honestly gets out muscled by smaller players... He relies to heavily on his stick and to be honest Tyler Ennis showed more grit in his short time here than I've ever seen from Engvall.

Kerfoot is useful atleast in a sense where he can fill holes, he might not be producing and looks to have no confidence this year but watching Engvall is infuriating. The guys a mountain of a man and plays like he's 5'5. Keefe gives this guy WAYYY TOO LONG of a leash.. call up a Marlie and sit this guy already.

Why are we juggling Malgin and Robertson, while this guy's gets a roster spot?? Both players eclipse Engvalls play in every game their in, yet Engvall continues to get minutes? No excuses anymore 21games in.

Can't believe we're paying this guy 2m+, he doesn't even have any trade value anymore.

never should have re-signed Engvall in the first place. no-show in the playoffs (0g in 17 playoff games) when the games matter. kerfoot is 'useful' in that he can play different roles but he is very average in those roles. both can be replaced.

I think both of these guys can be let go in the summer, and replaced by Robertson/Knies/Holmberg. if you need there cap hit you move them, but don't move them for no reason.

Personally I’d prefer they’re replaced by Holmberg and Steeves.

The leafs also need some more size (not a goon) that can play in big games and create some energy, forecheck and so on to round out the bottom six
I do think they need to give Anderson and Steeves some opportunity to see what the can do for us. If they can replace a Kerfoot and Engvall at a cheaper cap hit, it gives us flexibility in other areas.

Engval pisses me off. He is blessed with that size, and he's pissing it away.

He's 6'5" and plays like he's 5'6"

Kerfoot is versatile, but he's a luxury at $3.5 million.

It's early but Holmberg might be able to be that

I could amost tolerate Kerfoot's dumb penalties if he had hands and could score on 33% of his chances, but alas his hands are made of stone! Him and his cap hit needs to go elsewhere.

if we move on from them i hope we get picks or something in return. don't think it's a situation where we are giving away more to sweeten the pot.

they're ok players. kerfoot overpaid but versatile. engvall interesting tools but inconsistent compete.
