I think Kerfoot in particular is useful as a jack of all trades type heading into the playoffs. If an injury happens he can help plug holes better than most.
I'd be fine trying to replace Engvall with someone by the tdl if something came up
Engvall sucks. He is a give away machine. Let him walk and trade Kerfoot for a 4th round pick.A lot has been written about two these players on these boards and while I've been somewhat ok with their play in previous years I feel like their playing at a level or two below their normal standard at the quarter point in the season.
While not traditional point producers, at this time they have the following middling stats:
Engvall - GP-21, G-2, A-3, P-5
Kerfoot - GP-22, G-1, A-6, P-7
This is their UFA year, and they are both playing for their next contract which unfortunately for them isn't looking promising at the moment. Kerfoot currently earns 3,500,000 and Engvall currently earns 2,250,000 which is a combined 5.75 cap hit to the team. If their play continues along the current level, I can see them getting a drop in their next contract unless a team is desperate and over pays.
Personally, after this year, I think it's time the Leafs look to replace these players. Whether that is via internal options, a trade, or the free agent market.
I'm curious what other Leaf fans think. Will these players be resigned this offseason or will we be looking elsewhere?
Sure take on even more salary for fringe players.Trade them to Chicago for
Max Domi and Andreas Athanasiou
We even told them Matt Murray will be money and nailed that too, but they still don't trust us.We have such an amazing cap structure due to our core. There's a good 20 mil of cap space we can shed and still be cup contenders.
I don't know how only a small minority of us can see how easy it is for the Leafs to win the cup this season pending management gets off their ass and stops over rating their depth and prospects.
It's a small minority because only like 2-5 people see it. My first sentence alone will piss off 90%, then my last sentence will piss off another 8% remaining.
I still can't get over the Tavares thread. People wanting to throw away our cheat code 1-2 setup so they can bring in god knows what.We even told them Matt Murray will be money and nailed that too, but they still don't trust us.
That's a pretty big "except". 10 minutes left in a game 6 closeout game and he took the stupidest penalty in history. It's not even hyperbole to surmise we win that series if it wasn't for him.
Sure take on even more salary for fringe players.
I do think they need to give Anderson and Steeves some opportunity to see what the can do for us. If they can replace a Kerfoot and Engvall at a cheaper cap hit, it gives us flexibility in other areas.Personally I’d prefer they’re replaced by Holmberg and Steeves.
The leafs also need some more size (not a goon) that can play in big games and create some energy, forecheck and so on to round out the bottom six
Kerfoot is useful but he's making 3.5M on the cap, you use that and our LTIR money (I think that's around 2M) we are starting to talk about a good chunk of cash
I really want a 2way 3C to help out the bottom 6 in a big way
I could amost tolerate Kerfoot's dumb penalties if he had hands and could score on 33% of his chances, but alas his hands are made of stone! Him and his cap hit needs to go elsewhere.Engval pisses me off. He is blessed with that size, and he's pissing it away.
He's 6'5" and players like he's 5'6"
Kerfoot is versatile, but he's a luxury at $3.5 million.
It's early but Holmberg might be able to be that
