Depends on his price. Hes not good enough to make around Werenski money. Which he might get on the open market.

I also have issues with potentially signing him for 8 years

On the open market I think he gets something around the Severson deal. Maybe a bit higher, like $6.5m x 7. And he's about as good as Severson to me.

I don't offer him that but maybe $5.5m x 6? I go back and forth on whether Provorov is worth going long term with. He's really gotten slow. But I'd like to see what he could do with Werenski's training.

Given the fact his brother is now at OSU, he might be interested in staying and maybe taking a team friendly contract

I think we've seen enough to know that Provorov wants to stay here. But is he going to insist on a market-rate type deal from us? We're really not that desperate with Werenski in front of him and Mateychuk on the way up. It's not that we couldn't make great use of Provorov, but the open market rate for him will be set by teams that are in more dire need of LD.

IIRC his brother announced his commitment to OSU but he’s only 16 so that’s still a couple years out.

I “know” how this Gamescore supposedly works, but I have root problems understanding it compared to actual game results. Based on this, I would have predicted CBJ won the game - maybe handily. Not only did CBJ lose, but never felt like they were going to win. And Elvis was fine in net, so maybe deflected goals by BUFF skew the numbers? I thought that putting this up against Buffalo games score chart would better explain. I am not a subscriber; can see not legally download the Sabres chart. Still makes no sense to me.

No no no. Everyone is judging him on how he has played this year - his contract year. Average in the last few years when you consider signing him for term. When he wasn’t in a contract year, he played much worse than he has this season. No term for Provorov. 2 years for good money? Fine. 5 years for $4 million? Fine? 7 x $6.5 million would absolutely be stupid.

AAV should be a point of contention, sure. But given his skating ability and durability to this point I don't have an issue with giving him longer term.

For me, AAV is where you're considering impact and production. That can be negotiated around as this is a contract year so you need to average the previous few years together. But for term, that is about reliability and durability which I think he's shown.

Plus, I think it wouldn't be remiss to point out that the Jackets should start getting in the practice of keeping Russians around considering who else is coming up for renewal. It comes up every once in a while how important Fedor Tyutin is at getting Russians comfortable in Columbus. If extending Provorov helps with that, great.
