Expect Multiple Bombs Says Insider

Chris Johnston of TSN was on OverDrive and discussed Dubas’ comments. When asked if he thought there would be change, either at the coach, GM, or Presidency level, Johnston responded, “We should be bracing for a bomb and potentially multiple bombs.” He then went on to say that he’s been around a lot of locker room clean-out days in Toronto and this was by far “the most unusual day I’ve spent down there.”

He noted it was a departure from years past when everything was quite organized and said it felt like a lot was up in the air. “It speaks to where they’re at as an organization, they’re hour by hour right now.” As of now, the Leafs don’t know who their GM is going to be, and “the summer is coming quick.” Johnston said that even if Dubas comes back, this is the first time the GM has been on record saying he would even contemplate trading one of his “core four”.

Maybe, but youre reducing it by stating a position ahead of time.
It could be that he doesn’t like what’s out there as well. Maybe he sees something coming down the pipeline that is a better fit. Seems pretty rationale to say I’m GM here or taking some time, instead of just jumping at an aging roster like the Penguins for example.

Kyle should've been fired after the Montreal implosion. It's almost like people don't look at what other GMs do with less. Stacked against other GMs, Kyle is not even in the top half of the league.

The argument, "what if Kyle leaves and wins a Cup somewhere else!" is just a loser mentality. He couldn't do it here, for five seasons. This team looked best before he really got his hands on it, that is an indictment on him.

The problem with this team begins and ends with culture. That comes from the top. Entitlement and coddling are both synonymous with Dubas and Keefe and Shanahan has zero accountability.

Clean sweep the office and bring people who are desperate to win AND have been accountable for failure. Gallant was fired after the Rangers won playoff roundS, we're sitting here with our fans crying over Kyle's family. Jesus
BANG ON!!

The fact he wouldn't even entertain it before, is another reason he shouldn't be GM

What you're essentially saying Ownership should be considering a Clean Sweep of President, GM and Coach holding themselves accountable, and reset the clock, and try again this time with qualified people to try and build a winning culture that breeds success and not failure.

Dubas should have been doing his on the job learning in a much smaller market (or a longer apprenticeship as asst GM) and then coming to Toronto.

The dilemma now, is that MLSE has allowed Dubas (and Shanahan to lesser extent) to "develop" over the past number of years so that he now seems to be a pretty strong GM. To allow him to leave now would be exactly where this org has made it's biggest mistakes in the past. Allowing an asset to learn and develop here, then allow them to leave and have success elsewhere.

Keefe however, doesn't seem to have developed much at all and needs to be replaced.ASAP

as a fellow chemist I want Tulsky in here just for that reason alone lol

Very interesting career trajectory he's had
The problem here is that the Canes could be playing for another 4 weeks and MLSE doesn't have the luxury of waiting that long.

I agree but if the stress was that bad, why would the same place be the only place you want to go to rather than a less stressful market ?? My guess is he prefers not to move his family and would need more money to compensate for the stress that comes with this market. Funny thing is, old man Lou never mentioned stress and wanted to stay.
fact is Lou is/was old school, that breed is extinct, can you picture Scottie Bowman/Toe Blake/Punch Imlach et al airing how tough the job is on their families and thus themselves, they need to talk it over with their wives?????

Im sure we could arrange a few calls and flights if theres mutual interest. It sounds like he may have interviewed in Pitts already.

Damn, I forgot about that as an issue. MLSE has certainly boxed themselves in here with the short timeline we have

I think the issue is he needs to come here and start the job ASAP. With the draft so close and free agency upcoming there's already limited time

Who knows if he's willing to leave during a big run, I don't blame him if he wants to stay and figure things out in the summer

Chris Johnston said on Overdrive that he has never seen an end of season presser be so chaotic...almost like nobody was in charge of it. And this is going back many years.

I think you may be right. Dubas will not be re-signed.... take time off to be with his young family and then pop up 3 weeks later in another town saying he loved the game too much and couldn't say no to the offer.

My day after feeling is Dubas won’t be back. I just felt his very personal press conference wasn’t exactly typical of a corporate executive leading a big organization. I’m sure the job is extremely difficult on your family life but if you’re announcing to the world how difficult it is, are you going to walk around projecting stress and emotional difficulty in the future in your leadership role? Or expecting things to be easier? I don’t think it will be.

I guess they could always give Dubas a fake promotion and a two year deal. Get him to stay on for some continuity this summer, which seems to be the best reason why he should stay on. Find a “GM” and then let him exercise his out clauses and go to wherever he wants to be. Similar to what happened to Lou. And also when they had lame duck GMs like Mike Smith and Ken Dryden slink out while Pat Quinn consolidated power.

Things build. He didnt know what offer he would get and ive never seen a GM shown as frequently on a broadcast as we saw Dubas this year.

Im sure they talked about scenarios, but some pieces are new variables

In fairness we dont know if anything the fans did made it personal for Dubas.
heavy lies the crown, not everyone is cut out for being a leader, don't tell me someone purported to be as smart as Dubas hadn't figured that out before Monday. He certainly wasn't exuding his usual air of arrogance at Monday's presser............

This isn't exactly true though is it? Didn't Dubas admit after either the Columbus series or the Montreal series that they thought over a deal for one of the core players and decided that it didn't make sense at the time? He did admit it was mulled over.

Maybe I'm remembering this wrong?
