He hasn't shown any killer instinct though, so we don't really know. He's been hesitant to trade any of his buddies on the team or the coach thus far. Plus he just admitted to his billion dollar owners that maybe he needs a break as he cant handle the stress and pressure. As Pat Riley said, the leaders of an organization engrain their personality throughout. Not really a surprise there. Lol.
He may have fired the coach. He didn't say that. He said the season was tough on him and his family and would like to take some time to discuss things with his family.

I guess I don’t follow the Leafs close enough. First time I have heard this name.

Does this ring a bell?

According to a report from TSN NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, Toronto Maple Leafs' assistant coach Spencer Carbery is generating plenty of interest as a potential head coach around the league.

In particular, LeBrun cites the Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks as having at least expressed interest in Carbery, while he speculates that the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Calgary Flames may also have interest in the 41 year old Carbery.

“Now that the Maple Leafs are out of the playoffs, there’s no question that teams will be reaching out about Toronto assistant coach Spencer Carbery, and I believe the Capitals, his old organization, have already sought permission to interview him for their vacant head coach position, although neither organization would confirm that Tuesday,” LeBrun wrote for The Athletic.

I would like to hear more about O Reilly not liking his experience here. It’s quite possible that Dubas has created an environment not suitable for a successful professional sports team.

O’Reilly has never said he didn’t like his experience. It’s clear he wants to go back to ST. Louis or thinks he will get more money else where. He’s loved his time as a Leaf. But they aren’t going to overpay to keep him and he knows that. Simple.

Sounds like Dubas either wants a long term contract, significantly more money or both. I don't think it's a good look to air that your family struggled. After not signing, sure put it in the media.

How did you come to this conclusion? Serious q. I want the steps to how you came to this idea.

-Kyle Clifford
-Mike Giordano
-Sam Carrick
-Zach Hyman
-Calle Jarnkrok

Other players acquired for the Marlies were Ray Emery, Ryan Sproul, Andrew Campbell and Jack Kopacka, also Soo guys.

This is what I think as well and probably told a core piece or 2 to boot. And if this is whats going on then those that have said its not good for the gm to be such good buddies with everyone as it will cloud your judgement were right. Even Burke said it was super difficult to fire his buddy Wilson and it took him a while to do it even though everyone saw it needed to be done earlier.

goes without saying

Not the guy you quoted but usually crying to the media means you want more. If he actually cared he'd handle it behind closed doors and not draw attention or just walk away.
There was definately an alterior motive to dubas crying. It’s a manipulative move. Now it could be that he wants more. I just want to know what he means by “it’s been hard on my family”. Like how hard could it be making a 7 figure salary and being set financially…was his wife being harassed when she went out in public?

Yea tough on him because of the stress on his family. It took a toll on him. He also admitted that he may take a year off because of it.

He should be ashamed of himself if he is pulled the "took a toll" card. I don't think he did.

Like they discussed on Kyper, they should be concerned that the season took a toll on a 37 year old. They also mentioned Maurice and Rutherford having to step away for similar reasons.

I honestly can't understand why they want him back and are willing to put things on hold until he makes a decision. Then again, this organization hasn't won a cup since it was a "House League".

He would do what he did. He was asked the question and he answered it.

I burnt out in a job that MANY people look at and go "how hard could it be, I'd love your job".

Work is work is work. No matter the compensation or how "cool" it is, and stress is something that effects everyone.

All he really said was I need to discuss it with my family, it's been a hard year.

It could mean nothing or it could be everything. Who knows.
