The Pens are actually 1st in the league in 5v5 expected goals for lol.

The problem is their expected goals against is basically the same as their expected goals for.

I guess now that they've figured out how to defend a little it's not too surprising that they're winning games. Whether they can maintain it....yeah probably not

I’m sure some of this is based on them getting absolutely blown out the first month.

Once players hit their late 30s they may as well always be injured. The standard bumps and bruises aren't negligible anymore. I still think Sid will get back to a point per game before the season is up, but he may never really regain the form we want to see. Father time always wins...
I'm talking about when he went off the ice in OT.

Since the beginning of the month they've improved their xGA, but their xGF has also dropped and they're still around a 50% xGF team. So same same really from that perspective.

The big thing that's changed for them at 5v5 is they're shooting at 13% this month despite being at 8.6% for the season. That changes a lot of things, and that's probably not super sustainable.

Fun though.

To be fair though. Malkin and Sid probably score more moving forward too.

DOC - Lizotte - Pulju should be the 3rd line.

Hell as good as Lizotte has looked I'd put sid and Geno together again maybe with tomi

2nd line of

Rak Lizotte rust

3rd line of

Bunting doc and jessi

Spread the "talent"

Or go

Geno sid rak
Bunting Lizotte rust
Jesse O'Connor tomi
Beau Glass acari

I'd hope so, and that'd be useful, but the highest shooting% of any team last season was 10.6. You could magic 5-10 years off of the majority of the team and a season long 13% would still look a big ask.
